..and the problem with Black Dog is that Plaid have left (and unfortunately Mr. Downie has to bring in other people to work with, as a last resort, who don't have half Plaids' talent for writing and playing music...).

I agree.

Look, early black dog was a great thing and i understand artists want to try "new things" but the Plaid just sounds awful to my ears (they sound kind of like an orgy of anime characters and furies.)

New black dog is average at best (Sheffield techno we get it .. but its not good Sheffield techno)

everything post further vexations kind of doesn't exist for me. i am just not interested.

i don't mind artists going through new paths, and without Ed & Andy, it is obvious that it would be a different thing, but for me, it just doesn't have magic

Plaid don't have magic? or do you mean new Black Dog don't have magic? or both.

for me it's post Radio Scarecrow. - i know what you're saying.

The [new] Black Dog of course, mate. You know what i think about this already.

Plaid haven't lost the magic yet. Indeed, Radio Scarecrow is very strong, Further Vexations is still rather interesting, but after it just goes meh for me.

i don't even think RS is that strong, i just think it's ok. imo Unsavoury Products and Silenced are better albums - some good tracks on there (RS) tho. but i reckon things went to shit after that album and Ken took the Dusty road, too much, and he's taken over too much, the bald one. but nothing ever lasts forever, so who knows what we might see from The Black Dog in the future. i doubt he'll be with the Dust Bros. forever, thank God! :)

i don't care about the future of Ken or the new Dog anymore. i know i can always go back to the old Dog with that same excitement and always knowing i will discover something new, something i had never heard before

I love the new stuff. Thats just me.

I can enjoy all the releases from anyone involved at any stage, I wasnt that impressed with Scillinti but its still quite a lovely album. Just wasn't what I was waiting for for so long.

some people in here watch just too many anime porn,,,im noy saying it s a bad thing, but too much of it is bad, definitely...cause this makes them think they look like Chuck Norris. (while they dont) ... "look, the problem with you is that, you're not Chuck Norris..."

this is true! and coming back to the 'anime orgy soundtrack' comment, while i wouldn't know because i've never watched any anime porn in my life before, and i don't get how anyone could be turned on and get off watching 'cartoon sex'... it was a funny comment i thought. albeit a bit of a weird one and quite a deranged perception/discription of Plaids' music, but, i dunno.. Plaid writing porn soundtracks might be good! lol. i mean they could easily do it, they've got the skills! :emotawesomepm9: hahaha

seriously, though? anime orgy music?... fuck off, lol... the award goes to that, for the funniest, most bizarre thing i've read somebody say about Plaid here over the last few years.

Stuck with Ken after the tbd split because i knew he had a very interesting sound. To my joy Ken carried on with his weird and wonderful far eastern style of electronic music after 1995. Then he made a kinda come back with the dusts and released 'Silenced' in 2005.. thought it was excellent album, it had some of that black dog magic from old.. great! After 'Silenced' blag dog haven't made anything i'm interested in really.. Ok, apart from one or two tracks.

I always get to listen to the new blag dog albums when they come out but after 'Silenced' it's all gone a bit pear shaped for me. It's like Ken's magical sound has been pushed aside to make way for this (which is now old) style of boring techno donk donk music. I love my techno, always have.. but what Ken and the dusts are now releasing is to me just boring old rubbish... didn't think much of that ambient release they did either.

Plaid are still the Black Dog :)

even though i don't like or agree with (as a fan of old Dog) every decision Ken has made since Music for Adverts, and Unsavoury Products 10 years ago... i can understand why he's gone the way he's gone with tBd. he had to really, to survive as an artist and be able to keep doing what he does and sustain his lifestyle. i suppose it was either work with Dust or pack the whole thing in and get a crappy job. which after so long out of normal work would've been a hard thing to do, and get! so, new tBd was forged. - phase 3...

i don't know how anyone could not like and enjoy NF3's.

but i spose it depends what other music you've listened to growing up... like, if you're 18 and haven't heard anything like it before and have just listened to hip hop/trip hop... and other more bigger names/electronic groups. it might take a while to get used to/understand and get into.

to say it sounds like it was made by amateurs, tho, andhas no depth, is plain daft.

Well... ok... to be honest? If I'd heard this back when I was just getting into electronic music, when I first discovered Aphex and Autechre and Orbital, this would've sounded like "futuristic music" to me. But as I've only heard it recently, to me, it sounds nostalgic. It sounds SO 1997, and you know what? Mid to late 90's is my favourite period for electronic music, I swear there was something in the air back then. It's not nostalgic in the sense that "I remember listening to that back in the day", cos I didn't. It just reminds me of all the music I did listen to. It reminds me of Chiastic Slide and LP5 and In Sides and Snivilisation etc.

So MAYBE... if I were to look at it objectively... I would say it's good, but maybe not "fantastic".

But... I do think it's fantastic so....

listening to Further Vexations, i am thinking that it must have happened this way with the new Dog:

the dust brothers came in and were like "come on Ken, please, can we make some techno?! pleeease?!" and he is like "fuck off kids! i rule the Dog."

Silenced is released.

the kids go "what about now Ken, pleeeease!?" and he goes "not yet you little bastards, shit"

Radio Scarecrow is released.

again, they are like "KEN we want to make some technooo dancefloor shit!!!!" and he is like "what the fuck am i going to do with you 2?!"

Further Vexations is released.

now Ken just got tired of it and he is sailing around with his boat, while the kids are all happy making techno

Liber Dogma is released.

shit.
