Jetman Yves Rossy flies in formation with jet squad

Anyone glancing up at the skies over the Swiss Alps recently might have caught a glimpse of something quite odd: a bloke with a jet-powered rucksack flying alongside some fighter jets. No, seriously.

Yves Rossy, the Swiss inventor and pilot known affectionately as the Jetman, has donned his strap-on wing suit once again, and this time he's flown in formation alongside two L-39C Albatros jets from the Breitling Jet Team, the world's largest professional civilian aerobatics squad.

Don't fret if you weren't there -- the entire event was caught on camera. The resulting video, which can be seen below, starts with Rossy, in his Brietling-branded jet wing, clambering on to the side of a helicopter. Once at an altitude of, ooh, say, extremely blinkin' high, Rossy lets go of the chopper, fires up the four jets attached to his wings, and cruises in formation with the two Albatros jets.

This ranks right up there with Rossy's previous stunts. In 2008 the madman daredevil used his rocket wings to cross the Channel, flying from France to England in 9 minutes 7 seconds, reaching speeds of up to 186mph.

In 2010, he tried his hand at aerobatic flight, completing a spectacular loop-de-loop around a hot air balloon. In 2011, Rossy flew across the Grand Canyon. Like a boss.

With all that flying experience, we think it's definitely about time Rossy stopped messing about with aerobatics demos and turned his hand to being a full-on superhero. He'd be like a real-life

-- taking to the skies and reaching scenes of injustice and tyranny in mere seconds.
