three little tracks

Recommended Posts

This is really good stuff dude. Very full sound. The progression of the track is very interesting (new1). i LIke the phaser or chorus effect you have. Distorted to a fine sludge of niceness. But where did the song bring me? To a dissapointing end. I hope it gets a better ending or gets longer or something.

new2 is cool, still seems like it progresses to a lack of resolution

new3 has a new feel, like the triplet highs. Bassline is nice. Too short again.

I'll look for your postings here to see what has become of your music. I'm very impressed and inspired!

Okay, some quick reactions: the drums are mixed really high in the first track. I like the sequenced line that comes in half-way through.

I think if you pulled the drums down a notch, the other atmospheres'd be able to come through more; I could feel myself trying to listen to the background and not being able to through the artillery. Really ominous, kinda-industrial atmosphere to that track.

new2: ok, this is Reason, isn't it - that's one of the glitch kits. Explains the sequence earlier - synth driven by a Matrix. Mix the acidy bass higher, I think, and the drums a bit lower again - they're alright for what they are but they're a bit rigid, definitely not the best part of the track - maybe a really quiet triplet delay on the snares or something? Again, you've got into your atmosphere really quickly, set it up well; I could easily hear this as a soundtrack to something or other. Background music for goth terrorists in a movie

track 3: wow, it comes on for the first few bars like a hip-hop production. I'd do something to the drum sound, but it's mixed just right here. Not convinced by the out-of-tune synth - tone down the LFO and bend it where you want it to go dissonant? I'm afraid I really don't like the bit where it goes polka. Going back to the half-time breakdown is such a relief.

Reading that back it all looks really critical, but actually these aren't bad - I'd mix them very differently, but that's your call, and they aren't (as you say) finished yet. If anything, they're a little too repetitive right now, but definitely the first two are the skeletons of potentially very decent tracks.

Hey!

thanks so much for the replies. i just got a chance to read them. anyway....

Bubba69- I'm glad you enjoyed. All three songs are very rough live mixes, thats why they don't seem to go anywhere. Actually your comments have inspired me to keep going with these songs, so thank you.

Covert- I agree that the synth in the first track is a little too low. It's the only melody in the track besides the drums, I kinda wanted to make it subtle, but I geuss it recorded too low.

And you right I am using reason, but I didn't use any glitch kits, unless you mean scream distortion. I don't use any kind of loops whatsoever. "Explains the sequence earlier - synth driven by a Matrix", I'm not sure what you mean, I don't even know how to use the "matrix" thing. Yeah, the drums and acid bass on #2 are lower at the begining...I didn't really think the basline went with the song, because it's not an acid track, but i liked the way it sounds in there. So I thought i'd just put it in at the begining, as a little intro or something. "I could easily hear this as a soundtrack to something or other. Background music for goth terrorists in a movie", haha, thats awesome.

Really appreciate the comments guys, thanks.

I'm gonna keep working on these.
