Pye Corner Audio - The Black Mill Tapes Volumes 1 & 2

Recommended Posts

"Excerpts from the album. Now available at Experimedia.net. Reportedly created by a "Head Technician" who has been "magnetically aligning ferrous particles since 1970," Type has adopted Pye Corner Audio’s initial recordings for a lavish 2xLP edition. Though once the fictitious back story dissolves into reality, there are still plenty of reasons to seek out "The Black Mill Tapes Volumes 1 & 2." Many styles inherent in deep electronic zones are on display here: from eerie ‘70s soundtrack vibes and disintegrating organ melodies to beat-propelled murk and approximations of early krautrock. A few moments even recall a monochromatic version of Broadcast’s collaboration with the Focus Group. The anonymous figure behind Pye Corner Audio is clearly inspired by and well-versed in the golden age of radiophonics, but "The Black Mill Tapes" views the material through a 21st century lens, updating and refining the specialized style."

I actually did a split full-length with one of the guys behind this stuff, although what we made sounds SO much different. Really glad to see his music getting wider recognition, and I'll probably pick up the Type release as I missed out on the tapes the first time.

Whole heartedly agree! All 3 of the Black Mill Tapes releases are wonderful- couple of nice freebie tracks on there too.

Also can't wait for the Ghost Box album- love the track he did for the Study Series 7"

  • 2 weeks later...

Ok it wasn't a repress. I'm told the 'initial order was short 200 copies and now new ones have arrived'......but now obviously they are gone....this was just for Boomkat.

Well if you don't want to sleep on the cassette for Black Mill Tapes Volume 1: Avant Shards w/ extra tracks, I suggest you get over here and buy it: http://furtherrecords.org/album/black-mills-tapes-volume-1-avant-shards

There's also a cassette for Black Mill Tapes Volume 3: All Pathways Open w/ no extra track, but you know, why not: http://furtherrecords.org/album/black-mills-tapes-volume-3-all-pathways-open

Both edition of 100, all from here: http://furtherrecords.org/

Head Technician said he'd probably be doing BMT Volumes 3 & 4 on vinyl at some point too.
