Rare AFX Blog

There's another possible Mike n Rich track on that RARE AFX blog - though it sounds like an unreleased Melodies from Mars track to me.

Any ideas?

I've had that for years; at least since early 2000 - it was on a compilation of 'random AFX' tracks that had the Peel Sessions, etc.

Whoever is running this site - they're letting a lot of cats out of a lot of bags...

Yea have had this one for awhile too, some swear it is some kind of work of James but I'm very skeptical

and yes there are a few small things missing from this blog, and some stuff that should be removed as it is not what it claims.

one thing off the top of my head that is missing is that very short clip posted here on watmm long ago which Vibert put up somewhere online, about a minute of him and Richard fucking around with their gear even tho he said it went on for hours

I don't think you're understanding what I mean - as mentioned before, there's some stuff that shouldn't be there, as well as stuff that really isn't fit for public consumption.

I've put the Youtube link of that track on the previous page of this thread, in case you haven't realized yet.

* Asterisk denotes tracks which are likely Aphex Twin. All others are presumed non-Aphex.

I didn't know any tracks in the U, K, A and C sides were presumed to be by someone other than Aphex Twin. Is this the general consensus?

As far as I know, there has never been any "real" proof regarding the information who really made the tracks from Universal Indicator Green. However, to me personally, Universal Indicator Green, along with the Universal Indicator Red, sounds quite Aphexy. For me, the best "proof", as far as the Universal Indicator Green is concerned, is the similarity of these two tracks:

Those two tracks could have in my opinion theoretically been made in the same session. Pay attention to the melody in the second, Universal Indicator Green track, that comes in 2:24.

Btw, RDJ also played the A Side track from the Universal Indicator Green in his Wisconsin set from 1994:

The track starts around 1:15.

Also, my mp3s information indicates that the Morley set was done in 1992., not in 1993., as is stated on that blog. Perhaps whoever wrote that on the blog confused that set with the one in Paris Le Bourget from 1993., where that same Universal Indicator Green track was played.

i don't know what to believe anymore.

Review by Topher74 May 03, 2005 (edited over 7 years ago)

I met RDJ in late 2000 and asked him what Universal Indicator tracks were his. He answered: "half the tracks on the red one". I was surprised he didn't mention more. I asked: "nothing on the green one ?" since it is the most Aphexy-sounding to me. And he replied: "no... the red one". Maybe he was just messing with me, but 6 months ahead, he told me about the creation of his new MEN label (which came true) and confirmed the existence of the Q-Chastic double-12" with no plans to re-release it. This is what he said to me. What you believe is now up to you ! :)

don't want to be like that guy from 26 mixes thread, but do you have any facts on this or is this more of what richard told you vs what he told that discogs guy? either way i'd say it's pretty open for interpretation.
