A few albums recently listened.

Deerhunter - Weird Era Continued: I think it was fine, if I remember correctly.

Deerhunter -Flourescent Grey EP: I don't think I cared for it. It was unlike their usual work.

Bibio - Ambivalence Avenue: I really liked this album, but then I listened to it again later and I thought it was pretty boring. I think the same thing happened earlier this year when I first listened to it.

Tobacco - Street Trash Fucked Up Friends [edit]: Fantastic album 9/10

AFX - Analogue Bubblebath 4: I usually skip a few tracks, but I really enjoyed the whole album this time. That Knievel track always cracks me up. He's so condescending. 6.5/10

Aphex Twin - Drukqs: Besides that track with the church bells and Gwely Mernans, I love everything on it. 9.5/10

Dead Kennedies - Fresh Fruit for Roting Vegetables: It was my first listen through this album, so I'm not sure how to compare it to my favorites yet.

Anibal Troilo - El Immortal Pichuco: Fantastic tango music. Here's my favorite. So Dramatic

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l8ZOZGQTcdQ&list=UUMrF2afqvVAuatyQnJKMBOA&index=1&feature=plcp

Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works 85-92: I never cared for this album, but Ptolemy is a kick-ass track. 6/10

Roots Manuva - Run Come Save Me: A fantastic hip-hop album, I don't think there's a bad track on it. Plus one of the tracks features Chali 2na, who has the best voice ever. 9/10

Yuzo Koshiro - Streets of Rage 3 OST: Some of the best VG music ever. It's so gritty. I think it was the first video game soundtrack to incorporate gabber and other forms of hardcore electronic.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vmx7-bc3TTs

Atlas Sound - Logos: Good

Picky Picnic - Picnic Land: I've been getting into the 80's Japanese Underground lately. This one in particular has grown on me a lot. My top track of the year is on this album.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rwyuKAhjp50

African Brothers Dance Band - International: Great music from Ghana. Nice sunny day everything is cool kind of day music.

João Gilberto - Águas de Março: Can't get enough of this bossa nova album.

Pale Cocoon - 繭: More 80's Japanese Underground. This album can get pretty cold, but there are some nice psychedelic tracks. I'm going to love this album with more listens.

Matthew Friedberger - Artemisia: Fantastic. 9/10

The Tuss - Rushup Edge & Confederation Through -- 9/10

Rachmaninoff plays Rachmaninoff concerto no. 2 & 3 -- 8/10 everything but a crisp recording, but very enjoyable

65daysofstatic - we were exploding anyway -- 7.5/10

global goon - vatican nitez -- 8/10

vhs head - trademark ribbons of gold -- 8.5/10

graveyard - hisingen blues -- 7.5/10, some really nice stoner rock tracks

bersarin quartett - II -- 7.5/10, have to give it a few more listens

Chopin's concerto for piano and orchestra no. 1 & 2 (played by Idil Biret) -- 9/10

Btw, murveman, Pale Cocoon sounds nice! You've got more of this japanese 80's stuff?

Yea, I'm pleasantly surprised with Pale Cocoon. I've just recently gotten into it, so I don't know. I did find this blog though.

http://stalkingduppi.blogspot.com/

In one post they were comparing Picky Picnic and Pale Cocoon to the band Wha-Ha-Ha. Apparently they're proggy, but I still haven't had time to listen to them yet.

I also need to listen to some Rachmaninoff, so thanks for reminding me. I'm an avid fan of Tchaikovsky's piano works.

I've been listening to The Seer a lot lately. Haven't listened to a lot this year but the albums that i have, have been rather disappointing. From the albums i've heard, this is my AOTY at the moment. Very refined sound and emotions. Haven't felt the same way emotionally toward any other piece of music i've listened to. there are some parts that kind of fall short but im still surprised that it manages to stay so consistently good throughout 2 hours. I think Soundtracks for the Blind is a much more fucked up album but the Seer still holds up Swans fucked up undertones. 9/10

gruppo nps - nuove proposte sonore 1965-1972: gorgeous early electronics with a focus on timbre, frequency and space. heavy stuff

daphne oram - the oram tapes vol. 1: fantastic compilation of early recordings by daphne oram that also features 2 early sketches of sound fx created for kubrick's 2001 film

ekoplekz - intrusive incidentalz vol 1 + 2: murky dubbed out electronics reminiscent of early egisto macchi

Mathew Friedberger - Goodbye Forever: 8/10: The first half is great piano music and some synth work. The second half's synthwork is probably my least favorite thing he's done though.

Flying Lotus - Cosmogramma: 8/10: It's good.

Roots Manuva - Run Come Save Me: Listened to it again, it's good.

African Brothers Dance Band - International: Listened to it again, it's nice.

Odd Nosdam - Volume 9: 9/10: Fantastic. It's like a mix of his old multitrack hip-hop style and his newer downtempo/droney style.

Odd Nosdam - Pretty Swell Explode: 8/10: Good album. A lot of remixes including one for Black Moth Super Rainbow, and two for BOC's Dayvan Cowboy (one of which is on Trans Canada Highway). Some nice drones too.

Matthew Friedberger - Winter Women : 9.5/10: My most played album on last.fm. There are a couple of dull songs, but the majority is perfect. Great guitar solos and fantastic everything else.

Binärpilot - Defrag: 10/10: He's some sort of chip-tune/electro blend. His synths are so expressive that there is no need for lyrics, though I appreciate his robot voices. Best of all, he releases all of his music for free. Go get it all. Especially Defrag. http://binaerpilot.no/music.html

Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works Vol. 2: 7/10: So many great tracks, so many tracks that I can't stand (e.g. both White Blurs).

Some album by Kiln: It was alright.

Edit: Oh yea, I forgot...

Antonín Dvořák - Mazurka, Op. 56 (From the album Czech Piano Music): I went through my Dad's CDs and snagged 15 hours of piano music. I've heard of Dvorak my whole life, but hadn't bothered to listen until now. It's good stuff.

Edit2: Damn unrecognizable characters.

I just got Tides by Arovane. That is one perfect album. ∞/10

Loving this. Just been reading about Uwe Zahn and how he's packed in the music. Did a google image search, do these look like the same person to you?

so sad to lose such talent, although i'm sure he has reason for vanishing. i listen to his musics quite often and i've the feeling he will reappear unexpectedly at one point or another. either way, he's left us with amazing musical artifacts to obsess

The Lower Dens - Nootropics

I feel like this album definitely blew up a bit this year and I was the last person to actually hear it.

Anyway, it's good.

I don't know about great tho.

It has lots of great moments, but there's something about the lead singer that is offputting.

I can't quite put a finger on why.

She has a great voice, but there is very little dynamicysm in how she sings. I feel like the vocals need much more variation in order for it not to all sound smug or pretentious. Also, I feel like the lyrics a presented in a way that it may not matter what it is she's singing about. Or, it just feels like the words are in the wrong places. I don't know.

Anyway. Good band. Good album.

But something is a bit off.

7/10
