Your least favourite album from the last 5 years

Albums you have paid good money for, and you felt disappoint. The album is sat gathering dust or has already gone to meet its maker....

You might have believed the hype, purchased solely from reading an over zealous boomkat / pitchfork review, or been let down by a once great artist.

This thread is going to get some blood boiling.

But anyway, for me:

- Shobaleader One. I love Squarepusher but I've managed perhaps once to listen this one through. It just sounds very irritating.

- The Orb feat David Gilmour: Metallic Spheres. Meh.. listened to once or twice. Which is sad because I like both the early Orb and Pink Floyd but this was just borefest.

Edit: Also the very very very old bootleg Orb/Pink Floyd mash ups that were circulating the nets were much more interesting than the Metallic Spheres.

The only moment of genuine disappointment I can conjure at this time happened more than 5 years ago... I was a huge fan of Moby's Play and after purchasing '18' on release day in 2002 I felt as though I'd purchased the same album over again. I guess I've been doing my research and avoided major disappointment since then.

Nine Inch Nails - With Teeth (this was over 5 years ago, but it was a massive disappointment after The Fragile)

Deerhunter - Halcyon Digest

Sufjan Stevens - The Age of Adz (good artist, massive hype, huge let down)

The last 4 or 5 years have been really bad for indie music.

TV on the Radio - Nine Types of Light. I love the band, so i bought it despite a meh reaction to the single. That 'meh' turned out being my favorite track on the album...

close second is Shobaleader One. i was disappoint.

Man, Shobaleader is amazing. Really, you guys?

Slightly more than 5 years, but one album I bought that I can't stand is Sixtoo's Chewing On Glass... etc. I also do not enjoy very much at all the Tes record on Lex. "Indie hip hop" as a theme in general I suppose

As has already been mentioned, after The Fragile, this was a huge fucking disappointment and NINs output continues to be a disappointment except for the odd release here and there.

Personally just severely disappointed in this album. Just went in a direction that I'm not really into. Shame, because the single of Excuses is fucking brilliant, really dark.

didn't come out in the last 5, but i was disappointed with the Quasimoto sequel. Jay Stay Paid was also a pretty huge letdown. Wagon Christ's Toomorrow. Squarepusher's Ufabulum (even though I didn't know about it until two weeks ago...been busy). J.Rocc's Some Cold Rock Stuf. Cosmogramma.

Actress R.I.P

Have to agree there I reckon, didn't live up to my expectations what with Splaschshz being so good.

Agree with Quasimoto but that's cos the Unseen was sooo bloody good. Have to disagree with Toomorrow, way stronger than Musipal and Lush...

allways liked with teeth a lot (and great cover too), even if it's far away from the level of the fragile. the deception was year zero, the worst compositions of his career with shitty electro sounds.... but the real deception is manson post-holy wood.

Man you guys crazy. R.I.P is the bidness, probably my favorite of 2012 so far. Vive le differance!

Yep, full of potential, total letdown.

Also that 3rd (hopefully final)collaboration between shadow and cut chemist was an amazing disappointment compared to brainfreeze and product placement.

also the rap (ex) giants have made some horrible albums, the last albums from eminem, jay-z, rakim & nas was by far their worst.

I thought RIP was a good record. My favourite is still Hazyville, but I don't think Actress has been spiralling down or anything like that.

Also, Depeche Mode have released some 3 or 4 live or remix albums in the last 5 years. I loved DM from back in the 90's (a guilty pleasure), and this is painful everytime. I'd much prefer that they would stop making music instead of systematically finding useless things to release. Playing the Angel and Sounds of the Universe were meh - they should've bowed out gracefully after Exciter, now they're just annoying.

I had high hopes for Plants and Animals, as I really enjoyed Parc Avenue and thought they would go some interesting places, but their next album didn't have a single memorable song on it.

Bibio's Mind Bokeh was a huge disappointment, sounded like a collection of unfinished ideas with no pay-off to be found. Ambivalence Avenue was beautiful.

Hmm... next time an artist I know releases an album called _____ Avenue I'll know to try before I buy the follow-up release.

Mind Bokeh, but really only because I preordered it because the previews sounded fucking amazing. It's not too terrible. But seriously, I got the physical after the digital was available. I don't understand preordering.
