maybe you had to be there, but rave is some seriously shitty music.

i gave like 8 minutes a try, and then a few flicks, but it just sounds like a horrible mess

which is completely unsuprising, with 108 tracks squeezed into 48 minutes.

Rave is great but perhaps not in this context

Seems to be more of a conceptual thing with that many tracks than something made to properly listen to and enjoy in the conventional way

Considering EVOL's other releases Id think this is more correct.

Obviously this one is very specific to hoover-heavy tracks and crammed as hell (much like some of those footwork mixes) but the intensity seems the same. I wasn't there so I can't say how far off this is from classic rave dj sets and mixtapes.

And the tracks themselves are pretty rough, regardless of the mixing. Lo-fi breakbeats and samples on old vinyl after all.

Some of it's not bad, but a lot of it sounds like overcaffeinated cheerleader competition music (which if you've never seen or heard, consider yourself lucky)

Early Kid606 in a nutshell! But yeah, that's a good comparison. This is still less terrifying. Listened to it at work while drinking coffee and was quite productive.
