Its Warps fault, I mean look at the artists releasing on their label in the last few years:

Autechre

Squarepusher

Africa Hitech

Clark

Rustie

Plaid

Flylo

Prefuse

All talentless hacks.

yeah some of those albums were alright. but the argument is about NEW warp signings mostly being shit?

but i can remember being 21 and loving everything and anything electronic/idm that warp, etc. labels put out.

so i'll let you off. i understand your innocent passionate ignorant love.

here's to new aphex and boards, and autechre and plaid.

Thats because warp were only pretty much signing idm, or interesting electronic music back then.

They cant make any new IDM signings, because no one makes it anymore. And the people that do are snap up by labels already see:Wisp, EOD

Warp probably needs to a bigger market to keep itself running. Where rephlex has a small niche but fuck all overheads.

lots of people still make it man. and they make it good!

but warp obv don't wanna sign it. they stick with autechre (and S pusher) as their only idm? 'acts' now.

i guess cos they know they sell.

the rest warp put out is a mish-mash of indie and electronic. most of which sounds like shit imo.

like i said before, dunno if it was in this thread or another one, but... a lot of stuff warp put out now would've been boring even 10 years ago! but they put it out regardless cos it's a safe bet. in fact most all their shit these days is too safe.

but i know they're just trying to maintain a business... in a difficult time when people aren't buying much music. so fair enough.

i don't have to like it. and everyone else is of course perfectly entitled to like whatever they wanna like.

i've just been giving my opinion. not saying this is how things SHOULD be done, always. i am just 1 person saying what i think.

anyway, again like i said before, i reckon the 90's are due a comeback soon... like the 80's have... and i'm looking forward to that time again.

in the mean time i will just keep listening to whatever music i like and keeping my pipe and slippers clean.

:whistling:

edit: i like Squarepusher, Plaid, ae, and Clark, still. so it's not all shite, i know i know. :)

the only good thing to come out of the maximo park signing was the Tom Middleton remix of "Let's Get Clinical"

hmmm those visuals are better than the remix, imo. pretty standard remix with standard dance beat.

sounds like the chemical brothers or some shit like that, which isn't good.

The problem is WATMM has never moved on. There is so much going on right now in the electronic music scene, and all you can think about is what Richard is currently doing or what is happening with Boards of Canada's next album. Just let Warp (and IDM) die.

Harsh words. IDM is very alive, just not on Warp. Warp is kicking as well, just not in the IDM world. Warp is still putting out quality music. I'm not saying its all "good", but its not all bad either.

this is actually true and i agree. whatever warp put out it's bound to be 1000x better than what's in the charts these days.

so, fair comment.

i think my generation was just spoilt with insanely good music all of the time whilst growing up.

which isn't a bad thing...

lol every generation thinks like that.

The Middleton remix of "Let's Get Clinical" is a good track on the floor. Like I said - it's the only good thing to come out of Maximo Park signing to Warp.

Also the idea that warp only put out cutting edge stuff in the 90s is pretty laughable.

good tunes, yeah, but hardly anything more than a safe bet.

^ yeah those are good tunes. and pretty good for the time. not cutting edge but not really that "safe", either.

edit: but early 90's warp was very different to mid-90's warp and late 90's warp.

MK, on the other hand, are not cutting edge, imo, or even that interesting and would've been dull even 10 years ago, like a lot of stuff warp puts out these days.

anyway this whole argument is pointless and is going to keep going around and round in circles.

i just don't like MK much, sorry. i think they're a boring band from what i've heard.

i also think warp could put out better music and i think that a large majority of what they've released over the last 10 years has been shite. but most people (i guess of a certain age) already know this anyway.

that's all just a matter of (my) opinion. i recognize that nobody's gonna be 'right' here cos everybody has different tastes, innit.

thank u and good nite!

(and good luck to MK)

lol at the of a certain age. I'm reasonably sure I'm older than you "mate".

Hearing those tracks I posted above in 92/93 at a rave, you wouldn't be able to differentiate them from much else a reasonable DJ would play out.

everybody has different tastes, so warp releases different stuff, as they have done for pretty much their entire existence.

Look through their catalogue and find the house/trance tracks from 94/95/96.

Now, if you want to say that there haven't been releases as good as the Aphex/Pusher/AE/Plaid stuff from 95-2001, that I wouldn't disagree with, but those are some exceptional releases, not necessarily typical of what Warp released either.

To simply dismiss the majority of the music warp has released in the last 10 years as shit is just putting blinders on.

i ignored "Crooks & Lovers" because i thought it's some kind of hip-hop (im not a fan) judging by the record cover, lol..this video on the first page is nice, gonna check em out.

It's not because you listen to specific artists that it makes new stuff irrelevant. I, personally, don't need "new" music. The same way I can read existing books and never buy a current new release at the library.

After looking at the last few previous, recent signings to Warp, I feel this is one of the most exciting. I really did enjoy the Crooks LP and would love to see a good build on that work.

I'm 30. Not necessarily old, but old enough to know a bit about music, from the 80's to current especially. However, my age does not dictate at all what I enjoy. I can listen to anything from ATR to Phillip Glass depending on what I'm in the mood for.

this has got me locked in right now.

Warp has signed what I consider two of the most talented new artists out there.

Crooks & Lovers is great, but it has a couple of tracks I don't like.

But I think they potential to do a real classic.
