Hey guys, just a heads up, Arturia is giving away their Minimoog V plugin for free today. Apparently their website has crashed at this point, but you might want to keep an eye on the situation throughout the day and see if you can nab it. Not a bad plugin, I've had it for a few years, certainly not the best moog emulation out there, but you could do much worse for $0.00

how the fuck do you donload it then? you've got to "like" their page (requiring you to have a facebook account which i had to make a fake one for) and then you click the button that says download and then nothing fucking happens apart from i get a weird pop up message in french about something to do with accessing my computer.

what a load of shit.

Yeah it comes up with a screen asking for first name, last name & email so I'm guessing a download link will follow at some point in your inbox. Wonder why they're doing this though, isn't it like 200 quid or something ?

something to do with their agreement with moog running out - guess they won't be able to use the name any more or something? dunno why that means they have to give away a load of soft syths though - not like their taking up a load of room in some warehouse...

requires me to participate in a lame fucking Facebook 'like' session?

no thanks, Arturia. shove it up your arse.

Do what I did and just hit the unlike button again on your page to get rid of it! (Possibly) worth it in this one instance.

that'd require me to make a Facebook account, though. And I don't do Facebook (my choice, I know)

probably to expose the arturia brand. since moog is popular it's pretty effective so far i reckon.

Is it just that there's a new (v2.5) version out and they're just flogging some old 1.x release (that'll no doubt appear free on Computer Music or Future Music next month) under the guise of MiniMoog V Original ?

just as i suspected!

So, Arturia are releasing a 'classic' version of the Minimoog V as a promotional giveaway, with an agenda to enticing users of this classic version to buy the more fully featured version.

So in essence, this free version is an 'advertisement' for the more fully featured version.

So, to get this 'advertisement' I have to advertise it on Facebook?

Fuck off, Arturia.

Why the hell are they using facebook likes anyways? I find it hard to take this seriously

I have no idea what a Facebook like is meant to do. So many companies seem to use it as a bargaining tool but I honestly haven't a clue what they're meant to get out of such a pointless non-action. Is Liking this years Poking (whatever happened to that ?)

with all its silly nerdiness somehow watmm can't figure out how facebook as a tool works. it's weird.

i mean, is it really that hard to get why the fb likes matter?

to a company. not me.

..........Uh yeah, it's pretty obvious but.. giving a band, company or anything that needs promotion a "like" on Facebook is like being on their email mailing list on steroids with crack sprinkled in your smoking pipe. (as long as you don't unsubscribe from their postings) It's a free form of advertising (you realize that a lot of fucking money is spent on advertising right? when you "like" their FB they can advertise to you for free), promotion, or whatever content they want to be seen by lots of consumers.
