holy shit. this looks amazing.

apparently the game is a 'prologue' to metal gear solid 5.

also worth noting, the topic title is metal gear: ground zeroes, but this game is metal gear solid: ground zeroes.

did anyone else notice how all of the video was awesome up until the game play bit. they guy hides behind a rock then slithers against the floor then gets caught!

After that intro I was expecting snake to be kicking ass

Amazing production values.

I liked the last one but the gameplay was terribly unchallenging. Using the tranquilizer darts was like cheating my way through.

Guest cult fiction

Is all of that supposed to be real-time?

The gameplay footage towards the end looks great, but not quite as good as the stuff towards the beginning.

MGS4 had loads of pre-baked movies - you could easily see when it switched from real-time to baked by the sudden appearance of MPEG artifacts.

I don't recall MGS4 using any pre-rendered stuff, considering they'd been using real-time cut scenes since MGS2...

the new Fox engine looks like it will bring the MG universe into the present in terms of Unreal Engine 3 and CryEngine 3 and other game engine libraries...

I just saw that the MGS collection is on XBLA for around 20£. I've never played any of those games. Are they worth playing if you don't have any nostalgia associated with them? I rarely play older games because I tend to get bored by them. But I always wanted to try the MGS series.

imo MGS1 is still the best game of the series..

Really worth playing, and you should definitely start with this one. The later games' plots are increasingly wacky, though the gameplay gets more polished along with the graphics..

MGS1's gfx might look dated from a technical standpoint now, but its style is incredible.

You'll have to deal with the fact that you can't really skip the long, looong spoken dialog scenes. Lots of button mashing sentence by sentence. They're essential to the story though and it's best to not skip them, take some time for the game, immerse yourself and take it all in.
