ooo nice. will be sure to check it (will not necessarily keep it in mind, mind you... knowing my shoddy memory).

also ... April = Dark Souls 3. that is a day 1 purchase for me. dark souls almost has hints of metroidvania in its world design... but it's definitely a stretch calling it a metroidvania.

That's an interesting point, but consider how many Wii U owners have sold their consoles at this point? Is the years and money invested in Star Fox worth the return they will make on people who will keep their Wii U past E3, when NX is announced, and then the trade in programs like GameStop that will happen in the Fall leading up to its release. And a Smash Bros "remaster" is already rumored to be a launch title, so I can see them wanting to come out of the gate strong this year, before they've had much of a chance to start NX first party software development, bc so much of their resources have been dedicated to getting SF and Zelda Wii U out the door before the end of the year.

We shall see, it could also benefit from a strong Virtual Console launch lineup, like SNES, GBA and GameCube titles.

If anything, I bet Wii U console sales have increased last quarter with relatively lower prices and really good must-have games (Smash, Maker, Splatoon, Kart, Mario 3D). I bet as we get closer to the NX unveiling, either the console will go on deep discount and people will start snatching them up. Others will wait until they know for sure if it is backwards compatible (unlikely) with the Wii U.

Then again, with multiple consoles being the "in" thing these days, perhaps they'll say why not own both?

isn't there a prevalent rumor that it'll be backwards compatible?

I highly doubt it - for Nintendo to attract the third parties, they have to make the hardware as PC-like as possible - even emulating a Wii on a current PC takes quite a bit of CPU and graphics card muscle, so I don't think they could manage just yet. Depends on how powerful of a machine Nintendo makes.

For comparison, most say the XBONE/PS4 are equivalent to 2008-9 era PC hardware - so in 2016, I would expect roughly 2010-12 era PC hardware for the NX, depending on how powerful (or not) they want to make it.

One thing for sure - it will have an NFC reader built in (either in the controller or the console itself) for Amiibo/Amiibo cards - Nintendo's not gonna kill that cash cow anytime soon.

I really hope Nintendo goes all-digital for their games - don't make the same mistake Sony did with the Vita and do a proprietary memory card format (or release disc-based games), and keep it standard SD so people can buy whatever size SD card they want to supplement the existing onboard storage (that was one thing they got right with the Wii U), or offer external HDD support.

XCOM 2 performance patch is out, they did a great job. Framerate is more stable, no more slowdowns on the world map, and they added a zip mode that does what that 'stop wasting my time' mod did and gets rid of unnecessary pauses.

I beat the game yesterday, last mission was a blast. Afterward I started a new game on commander difficulty in ironman mode. Played just long enough to make a team of soldiers based on the Stark family and watch 90% of them die. Ned was the only survivor. Heh..

They already fixed it by just removing the need for the laptop.

Congrats! Yeah the final mission gets crazy tough towards the end, but the feeling of victory was also stronger.

Glad they patched it too, because those "hang-ups" were annoying. I'm too much of a sissy to play on Commander mode though, especially on Ironman. Seems like it would be impossible to up your Specialists' hack skills without being able to "save-scum." I like being able to take control of ADVENT turrets, MECs, and especially Sectopods.

Yeah I'm probably not gonna finish that playthrough, just wanted to give it a shot. The first 2 missions went well but on the 3rd I was just destroyed. Was fun tho, might try ironman again but on veteran

I woke up this morning right after having a dream that I was being contacted by aliens via a large flat-screen monitor in some surveillance booth, and immediately afterwards some coastal town in New Jersey was getting attacked by a large UFO. Last night I decided to pick XCOM 2 back up after the performance patch update a few days ago, but left off with 8 Avatar Project progress squares. Coincidence?

those were some ridiculous games juice

that V-Trigger into super during our last Mika match was pretty sneaky

yeah man. really fun stuff.

re: vt super. i just came up with that on the fly but it seemed like it should work as a guaranteed kill if the opponents life is low enough to die from the vt. i can't remember which character i did that on but maybe an invincible dp could beat it? i dunno

cr.hp into vt is a really good option. if the hp is blocked you can try some kind of throw mixup or safe buttons. if the cr hp hits it's a really easy confirm into passion press. i still don't actually know any vt combos since i usually just try to use it on some sort of corner reset or other shenanigans (or for full screen kill as a jump or fireball punish).

i still hate karin ;p

I've been watching a couple of streams of some Mika players like Fuudo and NativeImpact/RainbowImpact, they have some crazy setups but I haven't bothered practicing any of them lol.

and yeah Karin has really good normals haha

I loved Guacamelee! It's definitely one of the best games I've played in a long time.

God, why didn't I play Super Metroid before? It's pretty fantastic. Easier than Metroid but in a good way. Are any of the later Metroid games as good as these two? The FPS aspect of the later Metroids put me off a bit.

The two GBA games are close but for me Super Metroid is the peak of the franchise - Fusion seemed really kinda linear in comparison, Zero Mission gets really interesting when it breaks from the ties of the NES original but that takes a while.

Metroid: Zero Mission is a GameBoy Advance remake of orig Metroid 1 but with update graphics and map.

Metroid Fusion is another GBA game, developed by Super Metroid team.

haven't played either but they look sweet.

also, Metroid Prime is wicked. never beat it but i did enjoy playing it. excellent vibe + music ( but a tad too claustophobic and tad too easy to get lost.. need to revisit it).

got Metroid Prime trilogy on wii which has all 3 games but in widescreen and with wii motion controls similar to Metroid Prime 3. (Metroid Prime trilogy with wii controls is downloadable on wii u digital store).

Metroid Fusion is my favorite GBA game ever and the only Metroid game I ever played ! Beat it tons of time, love to revisit that world...but yeah even if you have to revisit some parts of the station multiple times it's quite linear.

Will try Super Metroid this week :)

i bought prime trilogy for wii u and immediately turned it off when i realized it was forcing you to use motion controls. huge wasted opportunity. i guess they got my money tho

I've been replaying Metroid Fusion on a GBA emulator on my phone. That and Advance Wars. Advance Wars is amazing.

Fun fact : I traded my Metroid Fusion cartridge against a friend's Advance Wars 2...My two best gaming experiences on GBA. Never really had any similar experiences on handheld devices after that !

Super Metroid is dope on 3DS, especially since you can play it with its original resolution. A Link To The Past is still amazing after all these years, I've been meaning to have a proper Zelda session with the following path: ALTTP -> A Link Between Worlds -> OoT -> MM -> Majoras Mask -> Wind Waker -> Twilight Princess, all of the older ones being the remasters.

TP is one of the most underrated Zelda games, it's much better than Skyward Sword, but that's mainly because you're forced to play like a moron in the latter. I've only completed it once, and that was 10 years ago, so I'm looking forward to not remembering a thing.

Hit 50 hours on New Vegas, gonna do all the DLC, wrap up all quests, then move onto Skyrim (with DLC) before jumping into Fallout 4.

I've also been playing Trails in the Sky on Vita, but most of the above are eating up my time way more.

PSN needs to have the old Street Fighter games on sale, because I've been jonesing them big time.
