Time for my bi-yearly music re-up

Hey all, I recently realized I haven't found any new music in many months as the major players have been stupid lazy lately. I need suggestions. IDM/DnB/Dubstep but nothing derivative. I realize the last two are definitively derivative genres but some artists have found interesting ways to differ from the norm and that's what I'm looking for.

I've been listening to a lot of Roel Funcken lately as he's taken Dubstep in a very interesting, IDM-esque direction. Cex has also been tickling my fancy on the more IDM side of things. Venetian Snares is still dear to my heart as always but his new stuff has been blah so I need more excellent breakcore stuff. I'm mostly interested in super glitchy dubstep though. No Skrillex garbage.

So list some delicious musics and if you haven't heard Roel Funcken's works you should get on that, particularly Vade LP although his new work Mercury Retrograde is pretty solid as well.

Also list IDM music similar to one or all of the following: Autechre/Team Doyobi/Phoenecia/Monolake/Richard Devine/Vaethx/Loops Haunt/Orange Dust/Probably forgetting lots and listing some random stuff here

Nothing poppy or sickly happy, and I've never been able to get behind vocals for whatever reason.

If you wanna go crazy, try getting into the Minimal works of Steve Reich, Philip Glass and Terry Riley. I know a lot of IDM fans who also enjoy this stuff.

Philip Glass - Floe

Steve Reich - Nagoya Marimbas

Philip Glass - Another Look at Harmony, Part 4 (video 2 of 5)

Hope that helps.

you need to give serious consideration to Mouse on Mars. if not their new album, then one of the old ones, as most people seem equally ignorant of these modern day mavericks. the CAN of the modern day... lets not wait till 20 years later to pay them their due like we did with those guys... it took Radiohead, didn't it

anyway.

my other rec would be DAWG MUSIC - CAPITAL LIAR SHOW

jk. but that would be an awesome name for an album/band.

I've been listening primarily to A Guy Called Gerald. the albums 28 Gun Bad Boy and Black Secret Technology. Be prepared for some dated sounds, but frankly the deepest, most awesome rhythms and ambience. And the samples are used in a fashion I must say is "genius." A true genius of futuristic sound.

I can get behind this, been listening to BST a lot recently.

Man it's a little frightening how synched up I am with you guys, just listened to Black Secret Technology earlier this week (to remind myself how awesome it is) and am a card carrying member of the watmm MoM fanboy club.

And vamos your Las Vegas av pretty much clinches my vote for "member you'd most likely go gay for" at the watmm awards.

Bogdan Raczynski

What Beck did for American folk music, Bogdan has done for the electronic music scene: Take the piss out of everything about it, by being a part of it and doing it like a pro.
