Exai bottom three

Because this is where the most controversy (and hence the most interesting discourse) lies, I figured I'd start this thread. What are your three least favorite Exai tracks and why? I'm talking currently so don't worry about considering things like " it might grow on me". I'm mostly curious to see a condensed sample of the various thoughts on this.

For me:

Runrepik - just doesn't grab me. The beat feels lazy and the melodies sound clunky and awkward but not in a good way.

Irlite - the last few minutes when the bass really kicks in are pretty sweet but the track seems way too long for no real reason. I'd prefer the length to be distributed among some of the shorter pieces namely prac f.

Nodezsh - the full on horror at the end is fucking lush but I feel like the lopsided beat on the way there is just awkward for the sake of being awkward.

*opinions subject to change without notice and by god this was not an easy task.

anyone else listening to exai without looking at or paying attention to track names/numbers? having no idea what track is what gives the autechre experience a refreshing perspective. its harder to nit pick and find flaws in a song that you don't know by name.

irlite is one of my favorite tracks, not one of the worst, imo. I guess this just shows you how much opinions will vary.

I know a lot of people won't agree, but for me, cloudline wasn't one of the star tracks on the album. It was good, but didn't really pack a real lasting impression on me.

nodezsh isn't really anything special for me, same with runrepik.

Also, when I say some tracks are "nothing special" I'm still talking about exai here. They are all phenomenal tracks, but are just a little lacking in comparison to the other tracks.

It's better this way, i listened to the album today on the move without the opportunity or inclination to check what track it was, just left it playing. I got home and stuck in on the speakers at neighbour bothering volume and a lot of tracks hit me which i didn't notice on the headphones. Cloudline might be my new fave.

bladelores, annoyingly long, and nothing really evolves.

1 1 is, most annoying filter they've ever used, and it's too long.

cloudline, pretty much the same reason as bladelores, too long and doesn't really evolve, nothing much going in it and the high synth is pretty annoying too.

Just cloudline. Whenever i want to skip a track and look which track it is, it's the same old cloudline. There's probably an awesome track hidden there, but ijust aint hearing it yet.

I can see why keyosc is a bonus track.. it's not great. I mean it is good for a bonus, but people saying it is a good album closer - not for me. It's sound and style just doesn't come close to fitting in with the album.

stop picking on cloudline

I'm not too keen on the end of bladelores I guess

Deco Loc (sounds like flying lotus doing zomby, not good)

Bladelores (dont like the bass line sound, the melody or the general timidness of the track)
Nodezh (the drum beat and the drum sounds in the 2nd have are borderline unlistenable)

i think cloudline is an underrated one for here, as far as a hip hop-ish track i think it's one of if not the strongest of the whole LP. Especially since it has that sub sine bass going through it.

Man, I adore nodezsh and runrepik.

I must have the tracklisting jumbled up or something because those tracks are godly. Probably the most interesting on the album.

Runrepik is still my least favorite, it gets a little better as the song goes on but for whatever reason it's just not feeling like a good fit.

If I had to pick one other, maybe sl9. The second half of the song is A+ material, but the first half is just a little too loose and jammy.

I still like it though.

Maybe flep & bladelores... not bad tracks, and bladelores actually wmstarted growing on me the last listen, but they don't stack up to the rest for me yet. Not as familiar with the 2nd disc yet.

Favs would have to be irlite and jatevee!
