I hadn't heard of this...just watched the trailer and was really confused. Is it meant to be terrible? Is the terribleness part of the point? It's not funny and it's not dramatic, so what is it?

love watching shandling turn the tables on gervais using the same shtick the office excels at.

this bothered me. gervais thinks he's some kind of stand up comedy authority who can sit with three guys who have been doing it their entire lives? pretty arrogant.

Shandling explained that interview before, so it really doesn't fit with the Gervais is a dumbass narrative.

I think it was awkward for both of them because they were shooting scenes for two entirely different purposes.

What happened when Ricky Gervais interviewed you for one of his TV shows? You didn’t seem to get on…

We were doing interviews for my Larry Sanders DVD at the same time as Ricky interviewed me for his show. My DVD included very low-key visits with my friends, including Alec Baldwin and Sharon Stone. We agreed we’d shoot my interview first then Ricky’s. When I walked into the kitchen, his cameras were on which created a completely different sensibility. I came in to say ‘hello’ with my guard down but there he was shooting his show. I thought: ‘Let’s see if I can signal to him to bring it down because we’re doing this other interview.’ We were doing two shows at the same time.

He doesn’t seem to have got the message…

No. It becomes a boxing match. Either of us could have stopped for a minute and said: ‘Are we on the same page?’ but neither of us did. We were two people doing two different shows. I kept thinking: ‘Maybe this will be interesting’ I was trying to do something not comedian-to-comedian but man-to-man. He was trying to make an entertaining show, which I’m capable of; I just wasn’t doing it in that moment. We all needed to stop.

It's over now and I can only say it won me over. Yes, Karl doesn't act and sticks out and yes, gervais personally seems a bit of a jerk, but I love Derek.

i saw one episode (the first one i think) and it did seem a bit obvious, the woman saying about the % of old people who died when theyre rehomed etc etc etc, and im glad ricky is doing this it shows hes not a massive bully for saying that its alright to call ppl mongs etc

in general i enjoyed it! quite a bit!

the thing I disliked the most was the forced and contrived way
chosen to get the message across, especially with the villains and their transformation after going through the home. In addition, the editing and assembly of the background songs made the former fact very difficult to let it go...

karl playing karl was awesome! ricky playing derek, yeah, was a bit bad!

I cried a bit in the last episode, lol, many of the parts were truly honest and effective (kev's confessions and realizations) but then it started abusing and became a bit annoying, especially with coldplay playing in the background...

seems that gervais and I share the same opinion about hip hop! lol
