Actually, it's a pic from the old Warp website, taken during an Aphex Twin concert

 

could very easily be a MBV concert though. saw the majority of the crowd in the Manchester Apollo in 2008 doing this

 

thats just awful sound design, music should be punchy, deep, and the trebles should be arranged so that they are crisp and clear without any actually ear stress.

 

basically in this day and age, if the sound is causing literally painful ear damage, then you have fucked up. quality over volume.
