Rarest/most valuable record/cassette/cd that you own?

paid around £50 for this a few years back which is probably the most I've ever spent on a CD tho it's hard to tell what I have that may have gone collectable these days.

Mixmaster+Morris+&+Jonah+Sharp+-+Quiet+L

I've also got my mates Ltd ED Quaristice versions in the metal box I've had now for over two years that I will one day have to give back.

I don't know about rarest, but apparently the most valuable according to Discogs median selling price is a first pressing of SAW 85-92 at around € 50, nothing special.

I own 2 mint copies of Binary Star - Masters of the Universe... scored both of them at a swap meet. Spent about $20 on a lot of 50 records (lot also consisted of a few Mablib and Quasimodo records... i was so fucking happy that day). Last i saw on ebay they were going for ~$150.

Massive Attack / Burial 12"

Autechre Quar steel Cd

Also got a few rare AFX vinyls

Also have the Clams Casino translucent blue vinyl version of Instrumentals, whose price seems to keep climbing.

I'd like to get the Aquarius/Chinook BoC

Wasn't there already a thread like this?

I tried to find it, but failed, sadly.

This was a good find from a few weeks ago, possibly my best ever, only paid a few quid for it:

In the Pokora guide it's rated ***** for rarity, 585 to 1000 Euro

My best score was picking up Broadcast's first album for about 15 pounds sealed at a record fair last year. Goes for about 70-100 depending on condition, I've opened mine though.

A guy sold me this as a repress, I never told him it was infact a first press.

Massive Attack / Burial 12"

Man I forgot about that - that one is going for silly money now isn't it. Have no idea why

Its getting to the point that i'm tempted to sell it tbh, I think the price is also down to the fact of the 3D artwork..

I think the last 'rare' thing I got was this trilogy (I believe there was only about 100-150 of each pressed) -

I have this too, lovely record.

Discogs says that my most valuable record is Liber Dogma 3XLP

The rarest I reckon is Tom Jenkinson Stereotype EP, which some fella of watmm was selling a year or so ago

I checked the sales history for Stereotype EP as I grabbed a copy from Hardy too, but it's not that rare actually. Also I think there are a thousand of them, not a hundred.

  • €32.47 Average
  • €30.66 Median
  • €47.30 Highest
  • €23.66 Lowest

Actually, could be a toss up with EL-B & Jay Da Flex - When I fall In Love

Rarest would probably be this: http://www.discogs.com/Satanstompingcaterpillars-Flower-Slides/release/1052658

limited to a few hundred copies. Early project from Tom of Black Moth. Edit: basically just bmsr before they changed names. Freaky folk stuff. Excellent.

Most valuable according to discogs is my copy of that Animal Collective cassette they did with Keep. http://www.discogs.com/Animal-Collective-Keep-Animal-Collective/release/2819849

4sales.

Nother rare record: http://www.discogs.com/Pinback-Blue-Screen-Life/release/2973659

Probably SAW2 black vinyl; it's a bit scratched up though.

Most of the records I have that go for high prices on discogs tend to be things that I've just stumbled across for a fraction of the price. Like the copy of the Broadcast and Focus Group album that I found new in a Perth record store two years ago for $18. Looked on discogs and it goes for over $100 now?!

Same with Simm City by Simulant (no idea who that is, but someone on discogs said it's Two Lone Swordsmen related?). A friend practically gave it to me along with a bunch of other records and when I was entering them into my discogs collection I noticed that it also sells for a pretty high price. It's a pretty awesome electro EP so I'm not sure if I should sell it but I do need the money..

Aye me too, I'm guessing Burial being the current-big-thing certainly helps matters too. Hopefully when that bubble bursts it doesn't take the value of this down with it...

Not sure about the most valuable, but the rarest I can think of is the Meat Beat Manifesto 3" CD Free Piece Suite

the most I've ever spent on a single piece of vinyl , giorgio Moroder's odd one off experimental record
29850_image0_20120626_auto.jpg

The earliest recording of Throbbing Gristle which even has some real drum work in it ,
irc00.jpg

ZF's 3rd full length 2xLP, sandwiched in between 2 pieces of board with a painted stamp image connected with string
ZF_Mohnomishe_front.jpg
The record label 'basic channel' owes their entire style to track C1
from discogs...
"C1 seems to have invented dub techno"

inadvertent mega scores while randomly record shopping:

came across this rare Ennio Morricone score that currently fetches anywhere from $200-500
114864476.jpg

also in the same mega score found the 2nd pressing of Vertigo by Bernard Herrmann

R-3002861-1311226935.jpeg

worth around $80

picked up both and a whole shit load of other rare Herman and Morricone (some I can't even find online at all) for $5. Total spent = $60, total value = ~$1,000+

You can´t buy a lot of stuff In Slovakia, maybe in the capitol city but in my hometown (second largest city in republic) any Aphex Twin, Autechre, etc. record is a rarity itself... So the most valuable are my copies of Drukqs, ICBYD and 26 mixes for Cash from Aphex Twin, Quaristice from Autechre, Supermodified and Foley Room from Amon Tobin and some others... we got two shops with music (if not counting supermarkets and all that shit) in the city, so I go around once, twice every week, searching through everything they have (in about an hour you´re finished) for any new stuff I would want. I can totally forget about vinyl though cause besides major labels with prices around 50Euros for a copy and occasional used copies of Bob Marleys records or some heavy metal stuff...

from my personal collection its this:

http://www.discogs.com/DBX-Rare-And-Unreleased/release/22637

worth about £50 - £250

our home collection we have 1st pressing mint condition of voodo ray which isn't worth anything but kinda cool. we also have a white label of joy division substance compilation & joy division still limited edition cloth bound which is worth about £40-£80. we also have some pschic tv singles but can not remember which off the top of my head.

I haven't got much rare stuff, actually. When it's on the net, it's not rare. Other than that, physically, I pretty much only got Martial Canterel's Empire tour CD that was limited to 200 copies, and mine is the only one that is signed by him.

And I've got Metal Fingers - Special Herbs The Boxset which is also somewhat limited and costs way too much (as it's a ridiculously compiled version - some tracks are double and the entire tracklist ist 100% wrong)

Carbon Based Lifeforms - World of Sleepers seems out of print and costs huge amounts on discogs, but I got it for 10€ from the label, so I dunno ...

But there's a good possibility I have some crazy-rare cassette tapes in my garage, they're the heritage of a guy I knew who had a good taste in music - I never checked them all though.

On my way to a full Aphex discography, the disco assault kit being the one record I've seen come up the least. Tapes maybe not as valuable but seem harder to come across too...
