Shit guys! Just finished my 1º listen. I really like Ravedeath, and it's still one of my favorite records ever, but Virgins made my cry in some parts. Really, it has some beautiful intense moments. It really moves you.

Right now, my score for Virgins by Tim Hecker is: 9.5/10

this is way more immediate than ravedeath on the first listen, it's pretty much hit after hit. the second half from virginal 2 and on is especially strong. they weren't lying about this one being quite rhythmic. i love the choice of sound he samples and plays around with, like the sound of piano pedal hitting, and the breathy horns.

I enjoy all the details, and the overall choice of emotional progressions. Feels deep and big, but I think really the details and vibrant structures / changes takes it to another level of interest

bleep's gonna release it any day now following the leak so i hope it's okay to post this beauty here:

this may be a long shot but does his compositional style reminds anyone of pollock (as portrayed in the film at least) ? his ways of recklessly and intuitively throwing different kinds of sounds into already thick mass of sound are really conflating with some scenes from the film to me:

really? i find that hard to believe. virgins seems to appropriate ideas from all his albums, just using more obviously acoustic instruments. i'm surprised you haven't liked his other works. ravedeath was kind of meh and overrated imo, and an imaginary country was ok with some amazing tracks (where shadows make shadows redefines dense, listen to that). harmony in ultraviolet is his masterpiece. mirages is kind of a link between the early stuff and his noisier work. i love his first two albums as well but they're pretty different from where he is now.

harmony in ultraviolet is his masterpiece.

QFT

Cautiously optimistic about Virgins, that Instrumental Tourist album with OPN was (and still is) rather cold and perplexing, but R+7 is great so hopefully this follows suit.

He talks about Pollock in an interview here:

Sounds great, but I think it might be a shit rip though... Anyone else notice that track 2, Virginal I, basically ramps out into a piano melody and then abruptly cuts off? 6:17 seconds here, but I think the song might be longer in the actual release.

Can anyone confirm?
