I don't know if SOTL would be considered dark, but some of their stuff is great.

"i remember i use to do ab crunches to this song in my senior year in high school and feel powerful lol, im 27 now ..yea i guess im pretty cool. Anyway, this song live sounds pretty phenomenal, thanks for uploading."

May Jeebus bless Youtube comments.

Earlier Stars Of The Lid is more stripped, dronier and darker

I was looking for a song of their first album, but I can only find the entire album in one friggin video:

I was looking for the first song anyway, but there's more on that album that might tickle your fancy

Yes!

That is pretty much spot on.

When I first heard the similarity between Semena Mertvykh and Veil, I first thought BOC were influenced by that track, or sampled it. But I guess both tracks incidentally drone a similar chord somewhere.

No, they were "influenced" (ie copied) the beginning of this Mark Isham track, before the piano comes in:

Anything by Atrium Carceri.

I think it shares the same feel of darkness, but sometimes it tends to have less melody in exchange for more samples and approaches of rhythm.

I would recommend "Cellblock"

and "Phrenitis"
