fuckin' i would! these socialist utopias are booooooring!

you ever read about a dystopian type future society in a book or see in a game or film or in a show such as on tv, and think 'that would be so rad to live there'? would you give up what you have now to go there? if so which one would you pick? the sprawl? Half-life 2? blade runner? detroit? 2015 Hilldale?

i'd rather live here:

Sure, who wouldn't, when imagining it. I'd like to get a sense of something authoritarian like HL2 / City 17, but I don't think it would be fun it to be harassed and ordered around by Combine / robot patrols on a daily basis, along with the paranoia that comes with such a scenario. It's still cool to think about though, that's why movies are tv shows are made.

well yeah half life 2 isn't really a good example since there are always guys with guns watching you. but a lot of these societies are depicted like where the lower classes are just kind of abandoned by the upper crust who literally live up in the sky in huge towers. nobody really cares what the scum down below is up to, so they just revert to a sort of anarchy or mob rule. that's when you get sweet ass neon mohawks and things. you don't think that would be sweet?

you don't think school would be way more exciting if it was like this?[youtubehd]TFNO0GJa09w[/youtubehd]

My favorite future is from The Fifth Element, i love Bruce's apartment.

yeah i hate that movie, but the future city is pretty awesome. that's badass how he can get asian food just flown up to his apartment by some cool ass flying asian dude.

I've always wanted to live in some kind of zombie-esque post apocalyptic world. I'd be down with that, though I'm pretty sure I would be woefully under prepared. Ok mainly it's just the killing that I'd be excited about.

i don't consider neuromancer a dystopia but ever since i read it at age fourteen i've wanted to live in night city, high as shit, running loose game, a cyberspace cowboy.

actual dystopia is pretty boring, wouldn't be interested. although logan's run might make this year a little more tolerable, since i'd be dead.

Guest disparaissant

i think my life might feel like it has more meaning if i was part of some resistance movement fighting against a dystopian future government that's run by weird aliens from another dimension.

on the other hand i'm out of shape and don't know how to shoot a gun, so i wouldn't stand a chance against the manhacks and headcrabs.

also yes to idiocracy. it's got what plants crave.

Logan's Run for me: mooch out into down for a new face, nail a fit slave chick, chase and kill a few runners then when I hit 30 BLAM!! Out in a blaze of glory.

Or maybe even The Sleeper with Woody Allen, just get in the orgasmatron when you're feeling horny, then top it off with a blast of the orb (not the band).

Future cities are awesome. I don't know why, but I think about this cyberpunk/dystopian stuff a lot. I have visions of structures and cityscapes. Everything from Neo Seoul in Cloud Atlas to the 5th Element (God, yes), to Blade Runner, it's like there's something pulling me there.

What I would give to appear out of nowhere at some mysterious Chinese restaurant in the middle of a busy future city in Asia or somewhere, like a mix between a scene out of Blade Runner and Existenz.

Sometimes I just wish life was like the movie The Game with Michael Douglas. :D

^^ HOLY. *Planning to call girlfriend after work to talk about saving for a future trip to Hong Kong*

Those shots are DOPE.

ha yeah, i'd like to go there as well, saving for a shanghai trip myself hopefully, it looks not any less cyberpunk, futurisctic dystopian etc.
