Who do you admire?

At any given time I've got a sort of mental roster of people whose attitude and work I'm interested in and who I really admire, and who've shaped my own personal/political/creative opinions to some degree. I'm kind of interested in who y'all admire and feel you've been influenced by. My own list seems to mainly seems to be writers (I've deliberately left out people I admire musically).

At the moment, people I admire:

Bertrand Russell (see in particular 'A Liberal Decalogue')

Hunter S. Thompson

Bill Hicks and the Scottish comedian Frankie Boyle (some of his written stuff makes incredibly spot-on points about how vacuous and fucked-up our culture can be)

China Mieville (love his fiction)

Carl Sagan

Grant Morrison and Alan Moore, for being creative as fuck

C. Wright Mills (his work on the role of the social sciences is inspiring if you're involved in any of those disciplines)

Who do you admire, WATMM?

Buzz Osbourne

Katie Jane Garside

Aaron Funk

Chris Morris

Maria Bamford

Wesley Willis

Neil Hamburger (Greg Turkington)

Several friends, colleagues and people I've met (usually when they are kind, funny, expressive, independent).

i admire ppl only based on their morality and empathy and all that i can think right now would be my parents, my fiancee and my best friend...out of living
i don't give a fak if someone's intelligent and creative, i'm too so what, that doesn't make me better human being. i could admire more someone like forrest gump than thomas edison or richard dawkins

Although way more conservative than I am, I've always liked Ron Paul, John McCain, and Barry Goldwater for various and random reasons. Eisenhower is my favorite 20th century president. I find very few politicians of the modern age even remotely likable. Statesmen just don't exist anymore:/

Many of "senior" WATMMers

Also the new pope seems pretty cool.

Guest cult fiction

This really chill waiter from yesterday. Dude was the chillest person I have ever met. He emanated calm waves of friendly energy. I shall seek each day to be more like him. I gave him a 100% tip.
