Here's my new/cold/dark/synth-wave cum (yes) post/proto-punk playlist. I'm well into poppy melodies and catchy tunes and it shows so maybe it's not very suitable for purists (whatever that means), intended to keep it mostly non contemporary but made a few arbitrary exceptions. Tried to avoid the really obvious stuff but I guess this is entirely dependent on how deep you're stuck in.

It wasn't until putting together this playlist that I found out how many bands that I like that made me wonder "are they from the UK or the US? UK I guess..." are actually from New Zealand. Definitely accidentally started crossing over into the 90s as well, sorry about that.
