dunno, the Bezos guy just seems to have a hobby with kinda extravagant techy stuff? space-exploration / california high-speed-tube / now this..

he's just very rich, other guys like him buy yachts or something, and a likeminded Joe Anyone would maybe be happy with a single multicopter for personal enjoyment...

not sure about the publicity-stunt angle here, this is purely for the nerdy crowd, most amazon customers probably don't care about stuff like this really.... that said, i remember when they first announced the kindle, and everyone was like, "oh naaaa... books in a computer? really?"... amazon sure has some leverage..

It's pretty damn gimmicky. Up there with that samsung phone watch shit.

Too many issues that could arise imo to make this service completely safe. Rotor failure, falling from the sky, hitting power lines, little fucking drones flying all over tearing into your kites, air space with the FAA, birds getting killed, birds getting killed & falling on you, people trying to shoot them down, delivering to the house next door, your neighbor training his dog to steal your shit, falling on people, decapitating children. Won't bezos think about the children! Won't somebody think of the children!!!

He also had the idea to face time amazon support staff from the kindle. I wonder how that is going? 2 lonely depressed people talking to each other.

i thought/assumed it was illegal for anyone, private citizen or corporation to operate a drone without being able to see the drone with a real life line of sight (it cannot be piloted by looking at a camera). It seems like a publicity stunt to me and not something they have a clue about how they would pull off. If one of these drones fell out of the sky it could kill someone, it's not a super light material.

amazon switched to a third party local delivery company that i would rather forfeit the money that i paid for the package and the package itself just for the chance to punch one of those delivery guys in the mouth they throw my shit up the stairs and just leave it there

i'll take anything over that shit

Probably balls indeed: that article pete linked to articulates some of the major issues with the plan.

Could a possibility be amazon linking up with google to use automated vehicles and some sort of biometrics as a security method for delivering the package - or possibly a one-time use code sent by sms/e-mail, something along those lines?

That intrigues me - designing a van that could do this wouldn't be all that difficult.

i think they could arrange amazon copter meetup locations at big city parks or something. i would drive out to a seattle park to get my package a few days early
