cool I need something not too difficult.. just blew up the PIC on my sammichSID because I replaced the LCD with a nicer one (still not sure what went wrong). software just crashes, this shit is so unforgiving.

also saw an 808 clone here which I liked, but it says on the page it's a difficult build: http://www.e-licktronic.com/en/content/25-yocto-tr808-clone-tr-808

  • 1 year later...

Decided not to flood in the hardware drum machine topic.

Finally, I made wooden cabinet for my LXR:

Its going to be primed and painted.

Cabinet consists of 9 laser cut 6mm plywood layers glued together:

Feel free to pm for drawings etc.

looking forward to receiving mine probably next week.
i noticed the plastic button extensions are held on by some plasticine glue stuff. is there a risk of them falling out?

i can't wait to see what sort of firmware mods are possible. think i will see if the bitcrusher effect can be changed to a compressor or soft clipper. im not attached to any particular expectations, but i do hope to get under the hood sonically it if the synthesis parameters don't have as much bite as I want.

Regarding button caps, in my case they sit firmly in places. They can bend a little if there is no any faceplate.

Yeah FW mods are possible, one dude on Sonic Potions board made one called OWL with some additional features (i don't use this FW though).

If i knew how to program, i would develop fully alternative phys mod engine in style of Image Line Drumaxx. It sounds ace and doesn't consume much CPU.

i'm pretty good at cobbling together frankencode, that's one reason i took the plunge on the LXR, to get experience points, not really to molest it.

since arduino's are so cheap, i've already got in mind to fill a box with several -- one Arduino Due (3.3v each) PER-Voice

why didn't anybody think of that yet? I hope somebody reads this and steals the idea so i dont have to build it.

also, my drum machine will sample with a built in condenser mic as well as external input. and a headphone jack.

this is off the subject, but now that i think of it, with enough arduinos running FM algorithms, it should be possible to analyze any signal and resynthesize it using FM and a raspberry pi to derive a function.

Yeah this is really great idea. Dreamed about this some time ago too.

axoloti might be a better solution for this since it gonna be more optimised for realtime dsp tasks

in china it's easy to get pcbs and cases made from scratch, even to find someone to solder the boards.

does the LXR do parameter locks or automation?

yeah, kinda

every track has 2 automation tracks, you can record parameter changes in real time (you have to choose on which automation track you will record them). or you can push step button and choose 2 destinations and values for them. there is no p-locks in terms of elektron though.

in theory if you're throwing a raspberry pi into the mix you shouldn't need an arduino to generate any of the sound. you can do most of what you're talking about straight from PD. I might be misunderstanding the need for using both.

nice job on that wood case! natural finish looks ace, what colour are you going to paint it?

Thanks!

Dunno maybe i will just cover it with varnish or stain

Yes. Faceplate consists of 3 layers. On top layer is laser cut 2mm transparent acrylic plate. Then goes color print on paper (all holes was manually cut). And then goes 1mm laser cut carton (to support paper with print). At the beginning there was only one 3 mm acrylic plate and printed drawing which was always sagging. With this button caps and knobs thickness of faceplate has to be maximum 3 mm.

Here is really old drawing with some mistakes iirc. You can rip faceplate graphics from this one.

I tried to find someone to mill it for me from wood pulp. Without results.

Thickness can be swapped (as in my final result since my local laser cutting service doesn't have any non-transparent material with thickness of 2 mm).
