Yeah, the western media are being real pricks, doing their level best to try and fuck these olympics up for russia before they even begin. Putin has said that he has gay friends, he is not against them competing, don't believe the imperial media outlets hatchet job on russia. Sure they're 15-20 years behind us in their widespread social acceptance of gays, but all that means is we should remember that we weren't very nice over here to gays either not so long ago, it takes a while for attitudes to shift yaknow. Being high and mighty about it from another country, generally hardens attitudes in the direction contrary to the way that you were hoping. It's like how every drone missile strike that takes out a taliban creates five more. I sat in disbelief yesterday as i watched nbc's cia man richard engel, try to say that having any mobile or internet connected device in russia will instantly leave you hacked with all your data compromised. The whole story has been outed as a fabrication by the security researcher that they had in the report. link And how ironic it is to have the US media moaning about russia having internet security issues when everything you do on the net anywhere in the world is monitored by the NSA and it's counterpart agencies of the five eyes nations. It really leaves a bad taste in my mouth, the try to knock anything and everything, in upfront large print headline bullitons. I mean with the London olympics if you really looked you could find stories about how south london residents were effected by building the venues there, but mostly it was nationalistic fluff, back patting and soft stories on quirks of the local culture, what to expect if you were a tourist in england. But not for russia, they're an official enemy, we're funding protests in Kiev so that we can put NATO missiles on the borders of russia. Our citizenry can't be left with any positive impressions of the place. Perhaps once we start winning medals for the west, the jingoistic pride machine will outweigh the national interest spin machine. (The fact that the Boston bombers were from the general region is rarely touched upon too) Our sincere emotions are at play here as citizens, but it's all one big geopolitical chess game.
