Why can't I quote or link URL's?

Subscribed to WATMM about a month ago. It was a great decision but the only problem is in order to quote anyone I have to open a new window (if I just click quote it doesn't do anything), and I'm unable to link any youtube videos (if I click link and type in the url and click ok it freezes and I have to close the window, and for some reason I can't even paste the URL directly onto the post). Does anyone know what's going on? I have a Members Plus account.

Are you using any kind of blocking software like adblock or something similar? Also, to embed a youtube video you click "special bbcode" (top row, third from the left), select "media" and paste it there. I'm not sure of the doing it the way in which you are attempting. That is how I always do it with 100% success.

I feel like you probably have something blocked or disabled.

Yeah, knowing the browser/OS will help in troubleshooting (also what theme you are using - you can change themes in the lower left corner of the site). YouTube URLs you just copy and paste from the address bar of your browser and it will automagically embed it.

The fact you can't seem to quote anybody makes me think you're using an outdated browser (IE 8) or you have Javascript turned off (most people do not and if you did, you'd be having problems on a lot of other websites).

I'm using Internet Explorer 11 and Windows 8.1 (on a brand new pc in fact). I'm also using McAfee Internet Security. Could that be the issue?

Adieu, I found the specialbbcode button and did everything you said, but after I clicked ok nothing happened. The post is still blank.

this actually doesn't work for me either in either chrome or internet explorer =/

I also can't embed youtube vids like the OP. =(

edit: I can use the method of embedding that adieu said, just not the copy paste method.

Honestly why does everyone shit on IE so hard, I don't really see much of a difference between it and other browsers

From the time I've used it, it doesn't really seem THAT much slower than most browsers. Never really understood that complaint.

With that said, IE is faaaar behind the other browsers when it comes to supporting new coding languages and stuff. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't IE take a hella long time to implement the support for CSS3? Or was it HTML5? Also, the interface is a bit clunky imho tbh

IE 11 is known for breaking a lot of established web standards - I wouldn't be surprised if that was the issue. I would suggest trying Google Chrome or Firefox and see if the issue is PC-related or browser related.

What, quoting threads? The embedding YT videos is odd too - I wonder what addons you have installed that might be conflicting.

IE 8 and lower were terribly slow, but IE9/10/11 are much better (the fact they still hook into the OS to gain that advantage remains though) - the problem is Microsoft still stubbornly wants to adopt established web standards their way, and they end up breaking things more than improving them.

I don't have any addons that I know of but maybe I'll do a clean install of both browsers and see if that fixes it.

If anything, you'll see a marked speed increase - most browser slowness these days is due to (poorly) written addons.

Chrome doesnt embedded youtube videos because all the URLs are HTTPS.

:orly:

That's HTTPS!
