Freestyle Scootering

Scootering is an action sport like Skateboarding, BMXing, and Inline Skating that has been on the rise in the last 8 years mostly in Southern Cali. There are pockets here and there in the rest of the states I believe, but I'm not familiar if it is catching on or not elsewhere. They have competitions a couple of times a year in San Diego and other places where beginners and amateurs win parts and full set ups and the pros win money. It is growing but really still in its infancy. There is a nice community surrounding the sport and support from the "few" shops that cater to scootering. From what I understand, it is pretty much a big thing in places like Australia and Europe (confirmation needed).

My son is really into it and he has met some of the top names in the sport like Dakota Schuetz, Zig Short, Mike Montgomery, and Jon Reyes. I'm sure there are more since he walks up to people at a competition and start conversations with them and I'm like who's that and tells me "it's so and so from that youtube I showed you!". He is so into it to the point of even sharing about the parts for his set ups at show and tell at school. But like everything else in our society, things get looked down upon by the old heads. And sadly, it runs off on their children as well. From what I understand, it was worse about 8 years ago. skateboards would block the entrance and not allow scooter riders in, taunt them, take their scooters and throw them over the fence, etc. Its a bit more accepted now in the parks but still needs a lot of improvement. The common responses you'll see like on youtube is "Scooter Fags" etc. I disabled the rating and comments on my sons videos because there are some pretty harsh kids out there.

Anyway. I'm pretty sure the watmm massive wouldn't be into this sort of thing, but hey, I'm not into IDM anymore but I'm still here! :)

Here are some vids of some riders in action

I was all ready to hate coming into this thread cos I thought you were talking about Vespas etc.

me and my sis had lots of fun with these things back in the day. some pretty dangerous fun now that I think about it, I mean we were riding down ramps at high speed and skidding all the time and shit. had some close calls. fun though.

Kids nowadays don't have the patience to learn how to hurt themselves with a board that doesn't have handles.
