It seems the epitome of mindless consumerism.

"Send me a crate every month of stuff that generally has no purpose, that I have no idea if I'll like, that I had someone pick-out for me, and that will ultimately turn into a large amount of clutter."

It's like, damn if you need something to look forward to every month why don't you try harder?

Why not just spend your money on stuff you know you really like/want/need?

I mean I've seen them opened. They are decent if you're into that sort of thing, but it just stinks imo.

This.

"Stuff stuff I need more stuff please let me pay you for more stuff".

I have enough random shit piling at my home as it is. I'm trying to get rid of it, not accumulate more.

The idea is not completely shit. However, the crate contents definitely are.

I've heard the same idea with craft beer or other food stuffs, which I think I would enjoy.

For 13 bucks a month it looks pretty good - until you include shipping costs I guess. Having checked the contents of their previous crates I wouldn't subscribe, but I can see a lot of people going "eh, that's pretty cool for 15 bucks"

For my birthday I was given a curry club subscription which is pretty cool. Basically a bunch of spice packs and recipes each month plus bonus extra things like chilli's and tea blends. So far, so good

That sounds a million times better than a loot crate to me.

Eye dunno, if I had money to burn I'd totally get a loot crate: A) I like getting packages B) I like surprises.

I'd then just give all the stuff away to friends or if it was worth something sell it on ebay.

My friend tries to convince me every month to get into it, but I just can always think of a better way to spend $20 (date w/ wife, good beer, etc)

Yeah I'm a geek guess what so are all of you, music geeks. I never said I'd spend one fucking dollar on this, it was just a question. It's called engaging your audience.

If you're really bad at buying gifts for people (like me) it might be worth it to get a couple crates and hold on to the stuff to dole out.
