anime but I realized at one point this (the japanese title) is a reference to aum shinrikyo

I like to think that the other song titles are sinister references like that but lost in translation

Cult: Doomsday music from the fringes of religion

fsZu8Sq.jpg

This is a mix made up of tracks and testimonies from religious groups that have been described as being cults. Some of the voices you'll hear have fallen victim to their leader's wishes, while others are testimonies, or music from the leaders themselves.

Best track from the first album of original music by the head of a militant splinter faction of Hare Krishna in 70s San Francisco, released less than a year before he was jailed for firing a machine gun into a liquor store from a moving car.

Oh shit, I didn't expect to see Zendik in this thread. The Zendik farms people used to follow me for blocks pushing their zines & cassettes… actually I've never listened to the music before.

a few months back I disappearing down one of those youtube rabbit holes and ended up on the final recordings of the Jim Jones mass suicide

pretty fucking crazy he had the tape rolling but then it doesn't surprise me, there was a thread on twoism not so long ago about the BOC and Waco connection, and you know the massive fucking wrong doing by the FBI and ATF (by killing them all with wind, fire and snipers)

all interesting stuff really, the world would be more boring without cult leaders and the brain-dead sheep who follow them

amen

I've posted this in some other thread but here's the weird folk stuff by the Trees Community, some sort of Christian sect:

Has a bit of a Broadcast-y vibe imo.

They never seem to have got round to murdering or molesting anyone though.

Holy shit thank you for that, didnt know. Always wanted a copy of it. I came into this thread hoping "Look At Your Game Girl" was here and it was

The whole album is a nice, expectedly psychedelic, unexpectedly folk diary of charlie. I remember the first time i listened to this song, thinkin how you could hear other members from the family in the background, then he starts saying my name at the end and i kinda freaked out lol

got this and hate to say it..... i love it. it's fucking beautiful. its not great. it's not like you're going to listen to each song and be transported to another world (because that's just me) but it's raw and bizarre (context is impossible to ignore). i am a bit a charles manson fanboy (check my history.... not so much btw) but i gotta say, this is really something new. and i'm now just shilling this for the label. someone give this guy an icepick (kidding....)

sometimes i get the sense that most successful bands & musicians could have been cult leaders if they had really got their shit together at just the right moment in their career trajectory

don't you want devoted followers watmm
