I've gone through my PMs (it wasn't email it was through PM here on watmm) and I seem to have deleted it. Maybe Joyrex has it though.

sorry btw not trying to get in the middle of things, just saying that's what happened to me and I remember it distinctly as Joyrex telling me that in 2013. I believe this was at the time when the donation bar showed our progress for the month.

Also, i remembered it differently too JR, that is why i spoke up for keltoi's recollection. Someone has to be less dark about this, so i don't think keltoi was digging at you personally, just annoyed that you didn't accept the point, which was obvious to those that remembered it, cause it was kind of an odd thing at the time (not thought about as a malicious cash grab using a dodgy tactic, this isn't what i mean, don't be paranoid [-;), which you did explain to a reasonable degree of satisfaction. Given that that there're so many odds and ends to running a website, i'm not surprised when these things crop up.

Anyway, bottom line, many people noticed the empty donation meter thing. It was discussed, we're talking about it again. /divvy's up cake

Yeah, I get that - however, turns out my initial suspicions about why this was brought up were sadly confirmed - I got a rather informative copy/paste from another site where this whole issue is discussed, and of course my reactions are fodder for their amusement.

Wtf I didn't make that thread and have no control over anyone there. What I said was honest. You brought the matter up yourself with your questionable version of events but obv didn't appreciate being reminded. Now you're trying to justify your dickishness by bringing up a conversation on another board which happened after everything here? Come on man!

My "dickishness"? Really? Please explain how I've been "a dick" in this whole thing? If anyone's been a dick, it's YOU - stirring up shit out of some self-entitled sense of justice, etc. - I have no idea if you made the thread over there or not (nor did I imply/say you did), but your comments in it are very telling to say the least.

You didn't create the thread here either, but you obviously felt compelled to chime in and "take me to task" for my "suspicious" behaviour when it comes to financing this place.

you came straight in with a dig at what you called "my home from home". you insinuated that i had no right to contribute to this thread and that my intent was to "stir shit up". all of which is overly defensive and reactionary. that's where you were being dickish, and that's why other people chipped in to back me up.

if you got a copy/paste of the conversation over there, you'll see the order and the names attached to the conversation. you can go and look yourself, you know where it is. my only comment of any relevance is that the main reason i don't come here anymore is because of the constantly rolling over donation meter and the subsequent ninja-esque removal of it when queried about it. left a bitter taste in my mouth... this, along with your sanitization and monetization of the site, although don't get me wrong, i understand that it's yours to do with what you like so my choice is not to frequent anymore...

i questioned your recent explanation because it was not my recollection of events. the donation bar disappeared after i brought it up in the reality check thread. really, you want me (and everyone here) to believe that the software allowed users to enter an amount to donate but it didn't tally and accumulate the running total on the corresponding donation bar? so when someone donated money you just get an email saying "look out! someone's made a donation, please log in to adjust the donation bar 2 notches!"... lol, come on joyrex. i have no problem with you making a hundred bucks a month (sometimes) or whatever it was, but i have a problem with you not announcing that you've met your monthly target (and hitting your target up to 3 times and more in a month) as a result of your users being misled... why would i pm you to bring this to your attention when everyone that's donated deserves to know? maybe instead of making up a story full of holes to cover your tracks, just own up and admit you got it wrong?

For some reason I can't access that site... wouldn't be surprised if my IP was blocked - typical of the petty stuff that permeates that place from what I've been told.

As for the donation meter, I should have just done this to begin with - all the addon does is set up a form that redirects to PayPal (there is no back and forth communication between the addon and PayPal in the free version I use), and provides an interface in the Admin panel that I can update the meter amount with, manually. I already stated my reasons for removing it, so I won't bother typing that again, but since my word is worthless to you, take a look at the developer's site yourself:

This is for the paid (37.00) version: http://www.devfuse.com/products/53-donation-tracker/

This is the free version: http://www.devfuse.com/forums/files/file/291-m34-donate-sidebar/

And here is the important part, from the developer's own forum: http://www.devfuse.com/forums/topic/6531-m34-donate-sidebar/page-2?do=findComment&comment=21767

You'll see he states that the meter does not update itself.

Now, if you're wondering why I haven't updated to the paid version (other than it being rather pricey) - since going to a paid account model, even the paid version wouldn't reflect subscription payments that come in to cover the hosting costs, requiring me to again manually update things.

Hopefully this puts this whole thing to bed once and for all.

I accept it appears I was wrong about the bar updating so for that I hold my hands up. You didn't explain this before.

However, you still miss the main point... if you were updating it manually and setting it back to zero, mid-month, without announcing that your target was fully paid, do you not see how that could appear dishonest?

Joyrex is not lying about the donation bar in my opinion. I emailed him in 2013 because I had donated $35and it wasn't showing on the bar. I asked if he had gotten it. He didn't respond for about a week and then when he answered said he was busy on vacation or something and hadn't been online.

As soon as he responded to my email the donation was showing.

I'll track down the email and post it if I can find it.

When joyrex mentioned that the money often comes from the same generous few and that sometimes the majority was paid by one person, I knew right away it was you and here you are making sure everyone knows how much you donated.

Sorry I did not realize 35 bucks a year was a big deal? Even though that also covered my girlfriends subscription cost of $15 too? Maybe I should take out a second mortgage to help pay it off? Whoa $20 + $15 for her subscription. Better call the bank to make sure it's pre-authorized.

Why would I need to hide that from anyone?

I was just trying to reinforce what he is saying about the meter. No need to be a dick about it.

That was also when I was putting "for November xxx, for December xxx, etc." underneath the bar... I would make sure everyone saw that what they were donating for was for a particular month - when the month's hosting was covered, the next month would go up, etc. because I would invariably forget to reset the meter at the beginning of the month (old age sucks).

Let's be real here - you just want to point the finger, make me appear dishonest, so you can revel in your smugness that you prevailed - that's all this is about.

Oh please - Fred was one of those "generous few", sometimes giving 50USD a pop back in the day out of the blue to support the site (nothing wrong with that, and I try to personally email and thank everyone who makes large donations like that) - I don't think anybody here is bragging about how much they support the site.

Also btw your ip has only been blocked if you trolled the place by another name. Dunno where you're getting your info.

I've never been there except when someone from here I banned was threatening to impersonate me and I warned Fred ahead of time.

35 bucks is a lot of money to a lot of people. You're always waving your purse around here, stepheng.

Says the guy who buys 300 quid jackets...

I'd subscribe but am worried about the recurring charges. My bank account hovers around $0 so that wouldn't be worth the risk to me.

The subscriptions are not reoccuring - they are one-time, and you get notified before they expire.

Lots of people are on a strict budget (including myself these days), I get that.

But I think if $35 was "A LOT OF MONEY" to someone their time would best be spent somewhere other than on watmm. Such as at work.

Joyrex how come you're quoting info from bdb if you can't get on it? Talk about petty.

I didn't buy that jacket btw.

Turned out my work was blocking BDB due to "malicious content" (our McAfee filter sucks). I can see the whole travesty now, and noticed your thread. You gotta admit, even you would be tempted to make a dig like that :dadjoke:

Look, bottom line - I don't care if you think I'm dishonest, but please don't go around making accusations like that without having all the facts, or at least checking with me first - I don't think I ever satisfactorily answered your concern way back when, and I wish I had known it hadn't sat well with you (or anyone else for that matter).

Considering how much time and effort and care I put into this place, I tend to get defensive when someone implies I'm running a scam.

Sigh, more petty digs at bdb... All it is is a place for adults to relax and talk freely without reprimand or judgement. You'll notice there's little to no smut, porn, unsavoury content, etc without anything being outlawed. Of course it's slower than here but it's not trying or claiming to be anything like here. If it's not for you that's fine.

+ btw I'm not sure you've answered my concerns satisfactorily even now but I'm done.
