So the videos on this channel are parodies, right? Actors, or a mixture of actors and some real nutters, right? Or do they not seem like real people to me because they in real life act out roles instead of being genuine? I can't accept this is real. This video for example:

At first I was 100% sure it's a parody but then I read all the comments and found this Vice interview with the guy: https://www.vice.com/en_ca/article/epgjaj/all-gas-no-brakes-is-capturing-americas-weird-underbelly-on-an-rv-road-trip

It just can't be real

It's hard to believe.  But there's something about all the people he interviews that seems more authentic than what a comedic actor could easily pull off, and I don't believe he'd be able to find that many actors who are that talented.

I seriously doubt all gas no brakes has the budget to hire all these excellent actors and make them blend seamlessly into their environments

The name "All Gas No Brakes" is so fitting it's amazing. Saw his videos awhile ago. Raw shit, good entertainment, but in small doses. It can easily lead me toward a sort of existential crisis...

What the world urgently needs is another stereotype that you can use to discriminate others, right? Interesting that it's against women and not men, as usual. The "Karen" stereotype might become as reactionary as the thing it's trying to criticise.

While I find this incredibly funny, I think, upon further reflection, it's not fair that they receive a shit storm like that. Yes, they are privileged, yes they are weapon owners and yes they are clumsy in the way they handle their weapons and yes, they have a shitty taste in clothing. But they clearly felt existentially threatened, an emotion that humans shouldn't impose on other humans, it's certainly not a legitimate form of protest. It's not nice to see your face all over the internet in that way as a result, either. Of course, pointing your weapons at protesters and by that threatening them with death is not acceptable but this behaviour is due to their shitty American upper class socialisation which they had no say in receiving. The protesters weren't all peaceful, they repeatedly showed propensity towards violence. The lootings and pointless destruction of not only upper class property won't help their cause at all. The protests around Martin Luther King could only have an effect because they were so peaceful. I feel that these new protests often lack sincerity and are for a lot of people just a welcome event to escape their boring everyday life and blow off steam. Don't get me wrong, I think racism (and classism) is an incredibly important issue to address especially in a history blind place like the US, but I'm not sure anymore about the intentions of some of the protesters and if their ways to protest help with this issue.

The whole thing is one gigantic shitshow. Another weird thing is every corporation, every youtuber, etc all obsequiously presenting their willingness to search for racism and call it out like that’s some kind of worthy pursuit. Whoever wins the racism Easter egg hunt in 21st century America wins a prize! Your own “comedy” special on Netflix and a cameo as the one white person in a Jordan Peele production.

It's still an issue though. I think racism has mostly transformed into classism because the racism of former times has pushed people of colour into the lower classes. That doesn't mean there is nothing of it left, though, but in the end we are using a very misunderstandable vocabulary and try to fit a complex reality into it, which of course leads to a chaotic debate

Edit: Probably belongs into the BLM thread, tho, sorry, carry on

Look up “Critical Race Theory” and how it’s shaping the whole conversation about race. It’s almost as if it’s designed to misdirect and distract from the real race/class related issues. Class needs to be a much bigger part of the discussion, if we’re ever going to solve anything.

They're real people but enhanced with great editing of hours of footage. He's a young American Louis Therouex - he's mostly able to stay deadpan or at least sincere and he really strives to let people speak without judgement.

There's indication he does retakes after they say something amazing or absurd, he's seen mouthing the same words of the interviewees.

I think it's 21st century gonzo journalism in vein, more Kino-Pravda than Cinéma vérité.

It's a fucking excellent channel, and his looting video was an indication he's got a fundamental basis in doing journalism.

He's also done more surreal stuff via his patreon. There's literally one of him interviewing pornstars throughout a full scene.

One of many trends that Idiocracy has predicted is that in this millennium so far there is an inverse relationship between intellect and reproductive probability.
