No kidding with dialogue, unfortunately I have hard coded Arabic subs, so no closed captioning. Did they have a warrant to raid the porn house? No fucking way a judge would sign that based on "rumors".

Some good scenes in this so far, although a bit messy start. Farrell is fucking great, not sure I like Vaughn yet but that might change

I don't really care about the mess or whatever, what I worry about are the themes, dialogue, background stuff. Right now it sort of feels like cronenbergs Maps to the Stars meets Mulholland Drive (although without the mystery and cinematic techniques etc). The self help guru is a staple of california seemingly. I don't have anything against the cinematography, it looks good, but it doesn't look as interesting as first season. Some of the acting and shots felt artificial but I wasn't sure if that was on purpose, like an LA/hollywood thing or if it's just my brain messing with me. I liked the party room with the blue sort of retro futuristic california rail graphics on the tvs on the wall. It does certainly have some of that uncanny nature from the first season. Vince Vaughn did not draw me in one bit, I have no idea what that is. It felt like bad acting in places even. I'm not american so I can't say, but it sort of feels like it might be a kind of ode to different parts of the US, and that would be cool. Like maybe we have to forget what we thought of season 1 and adjust to a whole new set of symbolism and emotional content for this one. I do miss Rust's existential thoughts and hallucinations though. But still, there's something there so I'll keep watching

I felt it was like, similar tonally with totally different everything else, if that makes sense. The first season doesn't really show its themes until the detectives show up at the revival tent and you get the juxtaposition of Rust's worldview and the preacher's. I'm thinking this season as well will take a few episodes to really get going and show what it's all about.

I actually really enjoyed it for the setting and Mulholland Drive/Lost Highway/film noir/pornstar/impending barroom brawl vibes.

that credit sequence is just soooo incredibly beautiful. even better than the first season and that's really saying something.
