This is the most forward thinking music without really trying to be that I have heard for maybe forever. But yet it's nice and familiar because they have been around for so long. I find this far more eyeopening than any of their later albums. It's palette is almost the opposite, not cold, stark and wide but up front, dense and in your face. Huge sound. Bravo. I'm happy with my sound really, what I really meant was that for a live recording it's far more future sounding than anything current that is trying purposely to be the next thing. Not naming any names. Yeah, for sure. It's certainly put my recent live sets in perspective, brought me down to earth a bit. Bravo. agreed 100%, the only thing I'd add is that while it is some of the most interesting forward thinking music i've heard in forever, it's also some of the most fun and freeform electronic stuff i've heard in that vein also. Most 'forward thinking' electronic music even the kind that is great tends to be very clinical and often times overly detailed. What I love about this is its simultaneously Autechre at their most improv/jammy, stripped down and it doesn't take away anything AT ALL from being able to fully appreciate their genius. The partial rawness of these recordings only increases the appreciation for me. The only similar thing they've done is arguably Quaristice but moreso Quadrange, and I feel at the time they made those albums they were transitioning into a new era of techniques and collaboration methods. Listened to Utrecht on nice headphones last night. I honestly think that is the most technically incredible piece of music i've ever heard. Every section was just oozing with character, and even with so much going on at once, every little sound sat so perfectly in the mix. I truly can't comprehend how this was made by humans, like it blows my mind that these sounds were crafted by someone, they sound so fucking real like living things or something i dunno, i'm just overwhelmed by how good these guys have got, i can't think of anyone who's even close the level they're working at.
