Because this is watmm AE or AFX will win even tho they haven't actually released albums this year.

OPN should win and y'all know it.

lol

gonna be honest. was looking at top 2015 album of the year lists earlier today getting all confused as to why everyone was leaving out Syro.

Well autechre mentioned that AE_LIVE is kind of an album/release - I'm willing to entertain that concept enough to add it to potential AOTYs. Of course, you could argue that it's a 2014 release since that's when the public first heard the set back at the Poland Warp party.

AE_LIVE to me as an ' album ' that mutates and changes form every time you listen to it :)

Indeed, the dynamics and changes between sets is entirely part of the concept, which is why it needs to exist in the format that it does.

Time to play "Japanese Producer" or "Yet Another Vaporwave Album"

Think this has been quite underwhelming, especially compared to last year, only thing that comes to kind right now:

Garden of Delete

Hopefully Burial will release something in December to save this mess.

In terms of albums, yeah, but I've nonetheless heard a shitload of great music this year.

I'll be posting a list soon hopefully.

I heard "Fourth of July" by Sufjan Stevens from a comment tree in Reddit that had people shitting about it. After getting repeatedly kicked in the feels from it on YouTube, I bought Carrie & Lowell and it's a triumph.

Reddit is so odd when it comes to music. I started browsing r/indieheads this year but got turned off fairly quicky. It's bizarre how so many people talk about music in terms of everything but how they actually like it/enjoy personally.

Surprised nobody's mentioned (unless I missed them):

Neon Indian - VEGA INTL. Night School

Grimes - Art Angels

I didn't mind Art Angels but it also didn't really stick with me, but that Neon Indian album is really great. Forget about all the music blog history and check it out y'all.

Also anyone who remembers Nick Fortè really should check out his bonkers album Primordial Forms, it is great.

Yeah, more dancey. Some people were really put off by that, but I dig it.

I actually find Fuck Buttons boring. So I guess I should skip Blanck Mass to, right?

I must say I've been disappointed by Kuedo's though. Not that I want Severant 2, but still, Assertion of... isn't as exciting to my ears as hmmm his µ20 track (for example). I guess I have insanely high expectations for his KNIVES imprint.

... and of course, I decided to play it right after writing that post, for the first time in months... and have been listening to it a lot since then. Funny how sometimes we need some distance to fully enjoy a record.
