Traditional Synthesizer Music is a collection of songs created and performed live exclusively on the modular synthesizer by Aaron Funk. Each sound contained within was created purely with the modular synthesizer. No overdubbing or editing techniques were utilized in the recordings on Traditional Synthesizer Music. Each song was approached from the ground up and dismantled upon the completion of it's recording. The goal was to develop songs with interchangeable structures and sub structures, yet musically pleasing motifs. Many techniques were incorporated to "humanize" or vary the rhythmic results within these sub structures. An exercise in constructing surprises, patches interrupting each other to create unforeseen progressions. Multiple takes were recorded for each song resulting in vastly different versions of each piece.

isn't the chatmm cover itself a ripoff of old record covers...?

Of course, just a funny coincidence that the albums are released within weeks of eachother.

oh he's still sequencing from renoise...

kinda cheating imo. i think the datachi release is all sequenced within the modular

The blurb makes it sound like there's nothing other than a modular involved. Cheesy as hell to put it that way if it's sequenced from a DAW.

sounds pretty nice....lame blurb though...same with the datachi stuff...great music but it doesn't matter how its made...its a point of interest but nothing to brag about...

i only used a really expensive modular to make this music....well done

still...looking forward to this...

      Hi,
So since early 2019 I've been spending a lot of time gathering all my favorite bits from Vsnares catalog, eventually gathering them in this massive mix.
I tried to make it more eventful than a simple "deck to deck" mix, yet smooth and enjoyable for a casual listener. Hardcore fans might enjoy tracking down all the subtleties too.
No deck was used, all the sync & mix was done with Audacity and Calculator, a few effects were added sporadically. Almost every track has been edited at some point.
I tried a Mixcloud upload but this got instantly unavailable for USA listeners (really...), so I quickly did a Mixlr link :

      Tracklist : https://pastebin.com/JYAnFYTN
      Hope you enjoy.
PS: some might remember 4 years ago i applied the same principle on Autechre discography, still online (and ok for USA ;) : https://www.mixcloud.com/NYUHM/autechre-25-years-the-megamix/

I couldn't find a specific topic just about Venetian Snares EP's,
I have been listening to a lot of them today and I have decided that they pretty much all kick a lot of ass.
All of these are amazeballs and I am having trouble ranking them in order:
Cubist Reggae Affectionate Pink & Green Horsey Noises Your Face Infolepsy Fool The Detector Doll Doll Doll I would like to hear more EPs from Mr Snares, he seems to be at his most experimental in this setting, with Cubist Reggae being a notable high point that would be awesome if explored further.

Much like its predecessor, 'Bones' manages to make the most of the possibilities modular systems offer, whilst avoiding their many pitfalls that can often turn such music into little more than a dry academic exercise. Indeed 'Bones' is a remarkably intimate album, written and recorded in the time following his father's death, and reflects this intense period of personal change in Joseph's life. "Creating this music was a therapy of sorts," Joseph recalls. "It was almost like a close friend being there for me, and it's something that I hope others can, perhaps, utilize in the same way."
