Anyone got Draft 7.30 vibes from acdwn2?

yes indeed! and the opening electro from AE_Live. The AC unit was down. Draft always felt a bit humid n stuffy to me.

elseq 1 is 7.0 - OK, i got that, rather straightforward

elseq 2 has 6.6 - eh? I guees it looks nice, also shows that it's a bit worse

6.9 for elseq 3 - porn reference?

7.1 for elseq 4 - maybe it has to do with quantity of tracks on EP, you need at least 5 for a 7

6.8 for elseq 5 - so they all have different ratings, something interesting is in the baking

According to my calculations the overall rating is 6.88

8 + 8 = 16 => 1 6

6 + 6 = 12

12 * 1 = 12

For the first time since Confield, I am now under the impression with elseq we have something IDM will benefit from for a long time. So much new input, new ideas, new sounds... They are giving so much. Didn't have that feeling with any Ae album after Confield. Ae bring the whole IDM business a step forward now.

As for the production: To me it feels like they enhanced their life stuff in studio. It's unimportant though.

Really? I'm not getting any Draft 7.30 vibes from here at all. Wondering where you guys are hearing that from, but whatever, everyone always hears Autechre songs completely differently. Also I like the idea of Draft being humid and stuffy. I might think about that next time I listen to it.

What if Pitchfork is trolled to oblivion and was handed a live jam made exclusively with sounds from an old people's home?

what if pitchfork came up with an intelligent, generative algorithm that generates autechre album reviews using the data of relevant watmm threads and that review is the result?

mmmm...the way the hip hopping clockwork multi synchro geared beats roll out while the bass glide hill waves crest under the aircraft as we tour the grounds? sure.... yeah.. tough stuff to clarify to others.. the sound pallete is current Ae style, but the relationships between elements feel Draft-y to me this morning.

Someone earlier posted that they thought acdwn2 was a varation on the opening bit of the AE_live material..I totally feel that too, espacially at the beginning of the track.

And yeah we all hear em differently...Ae seem to really play with this phenomenon in their work

mesh cinereaL sounds like the war drums of an alien caliphate. I keep thinking of the Persian empire for some reason. Hell, all of elseq 3 gives off a middle eastern vibe.

i think $33 for digital was a bit much... i'd rather have a 2xLP for that price, or another box set like exai

warp is really taking advantage of the autechre "brand" and they can get away with it too

then again 4hrs of autechre is pretty good

There it is. The Pitchforks have spoken: http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/21950-elseq-1-5/

I'm sure it's not just me who thinks this, but rating music on a 1-10 scale is the dumbest thing ever. It makes sense for video games, movies, tv shows, but music is far less constrained than those media. Apart from the mastering and sound quality, there's almost no objective qualities of music.

Bu-but how else will I have my music taste validated?

In the end all art is subjective, even cinema and video games. Yes, you can try to be as objective as possible, but it's still art in the end.

I don't think a 1-10 scale is supposed to be some objective rating. People who claim it is are misrepresenting it. The scale is just a subjective measure of the reviewer's own enjoyment of that piece of art.

I love rating things on a 1-10 scale. I do it for every movie I watch and album I listen to, and I like keeping track of my ratings and ordering them. I would never be stupid enough to claim it is objective in any way. It is based on my own values and criteria, and in the end the number only represents my own enjoyment. Things I give a 10 I love most and know I could listen to forever. Things I give a 7 are pretty good, but missing something to be great, so I might listen to it occasionally. It is just for my own purposes because I like organizing it.

I never said your whinging wasn't valid, but if you read this thread you'd see that it's expressed a dozen or so times and is therefore redundant, hence my suggestion for a separate thread.

This is like saying a season of a TV show is too long and too expensive and you'd rather pay that money for a movie instead.

Also that pitchfork review just passive-aggressively expresses that no one on their staff gives a shit about Autechre (the flaccid descriptions and comparions) or is interested in having any kind of dialog about them (the lukewarm rating). They've only ever been interested in "relevance", and I'm not sure what that even means in 2016.
