Day for Night Festival

I assume Richard will be doing a DJ set but this festival's emphasis on art installations has me not quite sure what to expect. I'm curious if he has anything else planned.

Again, what I mentioned about what he told me above - I don't think he'd get a DJ set prepared several months in advance... but we'll see!

Mysterious! Who knows? Any big performance has got to take some prep. Looking forward to whatever he conjures up, whether it's a finely curated set of tunes or some kind of Xenakis/Cage piece with robots and a swinging GX1.

DFN facebook posted this official playlist. Get excited.

...dang I haven't heard Phloam in a long time.

I think that's just tracks they picked to put together a playlist, and NOT indicative of what Richard will be playing at the festival.

Oh yeah I definitely understood that, it's meant to be an introductory course for attendees not familiar with all the artists. I certainly don't know every one of them, so it's a good resource.

Watch out. An Air BnB popped up earlier at 110 Bagby st., immediately next to the venue for $70. Fucking too good to be true! Owner had lost access to their account and someone in China was posting fake listings.

Live Phloam would be outstanding. I come back to that track so many times in the run of a year. It must be intertwined with good feelings I had when I first heard it.

I'm hoping given the ethos of the event and the fact that its his only intended live date that we are going to get something  new/special.

That's the interesting thing... either he only wanted to do one show over here, or they haven't announced any other shows/dates yet - I haven't heard nor have I asked though.

I would imagine it's the one date though - it's a long enough trip/effort as it is, and unless the fam is travelling with him, he'll be away from them for 4-5 days.

It was all the kids' idea, "ooh lets to go america daddy!" "hmm ok I'll see if I can find a place to play a few trax4cash while I'm there too...yup looks like we're going to Texas"

It's definitely bizarre he's flying out to the US for just one show, not that I'm complaining. Probably my only chance to see him live unless he ever comes to Los Angeles. But I'd love to know what they did to pull him out of the studio. I'm sure he has ample opportunity to perform closer to home. Gotta be something special about this gig.

I imagine (again, not confirmed nor asked) that the festival organizers reached out to WARP/Richard about doing the show.

I'll most likely be at the show with a small gang o' people. Lucky coincidence that a friends wife has family with a big ass house in the area that we can crash at.

Which WATMMers am I dosing?   :emotawesomepm9:

i would just like everyone to know that I am ready to be approached at this festival and will give everyone a hug and be a generally open, affable human. I am a normally socialized creature, despite my posting for 8+ years on watmm.

I learned from a friend who's involved in the festival that the headliners finish at 12am and they have an indoor "dance stage" that goes until 2am.

Just bought festival ticket and booked my flight. I am excite.

What's a good hotel to stay in close by?

Depends on your budget - Magnolia, Icon, Hilton by the GRB (bit far from the festival though) are all top-notch hotels, probably with top-notch prices to match!

Best bet is to look on priceline.com or booking.com or similar and see what the prices/ratings are in the vicinity of the venue.

I booked direct at the Marriot (convention center) through their website for $85/night. It is an 18 minute walk from the venue according to Google maps. I have no idea if it will be any good, but was the best price i could find that didn't seem sketchy.

I had the opportunity to see TOBACCO's new live set last night in Minneapolis. I have seen him perform under both that moniker and Black Moth Super Rainbow at least 8 times total. This was maybe his best yet, definitely the most intense.
He had 3/4 of the touring BMSR with him and a fourth person playing live bass. Electronic music with live drums and bass is something special. Even TOBACCO performing all his vocoded vocals live (sometimes while playing bass) and the synth leads performed by Seven Fields of Aphelion are so much more magical than the typical 'laptop/sampler' setup that most live electronic music entails.

The visual setup is incredible on a whole new level for these guys. This will be one of the strongest sets at the festival by my estimation, don't miss it!

nice! i heard him talking about how his new set was a big step up and even mentioned trying to avoid spoilers. i was honestly a bit bored with his most recent tobacco tour where the visuals were mostly 80s gore/porn but enjoyed seeing him tour as bmsr
