Also track title should be "Decker's Theme" I think? That's what it says on my disc case anyway.

 

Nevermind, I'm wrong. Deckard's Theme is off a diff album and is a remix of the original.

Friyay

 

The shuttle was hella-full. The door opened and I was just like… uh… where am I supposed to sit? So the guy next to the door kindly gave me the middle, and I rode a cozy bitch seat for about 20 minutes, trying not to engage whenever the complaining businessman on my other side tried to strike up a conversation with the van. I figured, fine I’ll be quiet, because I was wearing a bite guard and was all lispy and feelin antisocial anyway. Once the annoying time-bomb was let off the shuttle, the guy who had given me his seat asked, “Are you here for the festival?” And when I said yesh, he asked who I was most excited to see? “Well, AphexshTwin, of coursh!” I said - and wouldn’t you know it this would be his 13^th time seeing him. Hearing him say that with his gorgeous Irish accent just about made me drop dead on the spot. So yeah it was phudo – he then pulled out his phone and showed me the watmm discord and I was just sort of in awe at the whole thing, the sheer randomness and perfection of our encounter on a sketchy shuttle bus. Immediate kinship! Exactly who I wanted to meet!

 

Rolling up to Satellite, I saw phudo hanging outside and remember leaping out of the suv to hug him. He was pretty surprised! When we went in, Cygnus was playing and the club was jumpin. Ran into my friend RedHat (from Philly) and his woman, met a bunch of cool folks that I think aren’t on here (or they are but I can’t recall their handles). When I last saw RedHat that night, he told me, “I’ll be in the mosh pit at Aphex Twin.”

 

halluciphile and I headed out for a smoke, and I recall walking by at the very moment phudo and pbod took the knob twiddlers pic! A bit later, they came out to catch their uber, and maybe whitley was with them (?) but it all happened really quickly.

Caturday

After caffeinating ourselves from the wheezing hotel room coffee machine, halluciphile and I started our day by meeting up w/one of his friends nearby, sort of lazing about and ambling toward food. halluciphile was closely following discord, so when he found out about the vinyl, we picked up the pace! Of course, we scored it, and like any good friend would, he kept our wax safe until we could take a break back to the hotel.

Shortly thereafter, while still exploring a bit, who should we randomly run into but phudoshin! Guess he didn’t recognize me at first as I’d cleaned up a bit since the night prior lol. We discussed the schedule a bit and said our goodbyes for the time being. Over the course of the afternoon I caught bits of Chelsea Wolfe and Clams Casino; guess I’d wandered off from halluciphile for a bit when he texted me:

Next on the agenda: get ourselves into position for Aphex. halluciphile and I stationed ourselves to the side and patiently waited for Odesza to gtfo. The mass exodus of their fans at the end was really something – I felt kinda bad for them at first, but after the Aphex set started and more of them continued to leave, I realized they were beyond saving, anyway.

 

Then came the wind, the rain, and everything else! At one point, I saw RedHat moshing maybe 8 people in front of me and broke up the pit with a hug. Eventually, I made my way back to the sweet spot, where halluciphile was still ravin hard next to poncho. I loved every minute and it’ll always be one of the best moments of my life.

 

 

Sunday Funday

 

It was over brunch that I met whitleystriber, sean, nonlin, griff, nirinien, and a few others (phil…)… we actually went around the table and did formal introductions. It was pretty incredible to hear about each member of this enormously talented group, and where they each originally heard RDJ, etc. Discord was still hoppin, and I encouraged phudoshin to head over with phonicboyondope. Most of the crew cleared out around the time they arrived, but whitley, sean, halluciphile, and I stuck around with the newcomers and we bonded big-time over coffee.

 

Highlight of the afternoon was Lightning Bolt, who slayed it! halluciphile and I explored for a bit on our own, caught the end of Anklepants, and eventually the brunch crew reconvened in the tent near the food. I met xxx and a few others (?) and we all squadded up for Squarepusher and FUCK ME what a great experience. We headed straight for yesterday’s “sweet spot” at the red stage and HOLY BALLS. Pure energy and lots of love. We were sufficiently snared! Pleased that pusher’s graphics didn’t blind me this time; the whole experience was really tight. No place I’d rather have been than right there the whole time. I’ve been into Bjork here n there over the years and yet saw none of her at the festival – the VR line looked a nightmare, and I had no interest in watching her DJ really, and I am RELIEVED I made the choice to see >[ ] for the third(?) time instead of busting my ass to have one sub-par Bjork experience amongst the pleebs. Anyhow afterward the crew caravanned over to the Butthole Surfers, during which I successfully got rid of the couple making out in front of us - I felt invincible at this point lol! Anyway made my listening experience a whole lot more pleasant once they moved along. Surfers sounded great and were the perfect phase-down.

 

Afterward, phudo, pbod, whitley, halluciphile, sean & I transplanted to a hotel room for a bathroom rave/afterparty and gradual phase down, sharing our own projects and just talking about every damn thing in the world until it was so late that we all had to say goodnight.

 

“Gonna Miss You” Monday

I headed to the airport early with halluciphile the next day, since he didn’t have a phone and I wanted to make sure he got his flight. To kill the several hours of time before my flight, I bumped around discord and met up with fellow watmmers at their gates for final goodbyes (and some hellos!).

 

Met xxx at his gate in terminal A, where I believe I also met Goiter Sanchez and… ? Shit, I took decent notes this weekend but I’m not perfect. A fellow fest-goer walked by while I was showing them Toenail’s girlfriend’s poster, and I think maybe he just didn’t even know what he got himself into. WE’RE HUGE APHEX TWIN FANS we said… WATMM we suggested… originally he’d said he was going to tag with me to terminal C, but after seeing how looney we were, he was like “it was nice meeting you” as I scooted away to meet phudo, whitley, and (?) shit I told you at this point it was getting hazy.

 

We bounced around together a bit, got a bite, and at one point were walking together when Santa drove up next to us in the airport cart. He was askin if we’d been naughty or nice I think, and I let him know “I’ve got all I need for Christmas right here” while clutching my vinyl protectively. Eventually it was down to just whitley, phudo, & me. phudo and I got caught in a gift shop while whitey was boarding so we didn’t get to say goodbye proper (sorry!), but at least we ended up with these matching rave astronaut magnets:

Good stuff hearing about the lead up and planning of the trip, you and halluciphile making the journey. Interesting how you met phudo and ended up in the discord, that lead to meeting some other watmmers as well. Was awesome meeting and getting to know you and halluciphile, hanging out with everyone else we met along the way, and running into you guys throughout the whole weekend. Of course Lightning Bolt, Squarepusher and Butthole Surfers as well on Sunday, good times that didn't end until well after a bathroom rave back at our hotel room. Definitely a trip to remember, thanks

I think I even turned to him to yell something about how excited I was. love re-watching that bit as the rain is pouring down and ppl are screaming and dancing their asses off. in my video you can even see the security guard dancing

Track is good though. I wonder how old it is. Seems like a real mixed bag stylistically. I think some of the Cheetah Ep stuff is recently created, as well as Umil, MARCHROM, T08+4.. I can see similarities to any of those tracks.
