Currently waiting at the 2nd part of mutek to get my rave on. It's basically a bunch of people just sitting around and smoking. I should've bought food.

 

Rice would be nice.

Holy shit, the headphones thing is going to make it to finals...  But it could easily lose to "Not spending time outside", and motherfucking everyone will do an ambient track.

 

"Wearing headphones with no incoming sonics" is only IDM if you're not trying to be cool or pretending to listen to music.  I do it often by accident (subconsciously on purpose?).  It's IDM, because- well, first off-- IDM is not a music genre, it's a way of life.

 

The IDM reason why someone would have silent headphones on is if they were just listening to something and the sounds stopped (or expecting to listen to something but have yet to listen to anything).  But the reason why they aren't removed from the head immediately, is because they are comfortable.  If you are IDM, 93%, you have a pretty good pair of headphones.  But 100%, you've been listening to music forever, so such a head ornament is part of who you are.  It's part of your DNA, even.  That's why it's IDM.

 

101% IDM is buying shitty uncomfortable headphones to make your ears suffer after an hour of maximum volume elseq banging (not speaking of your internal ear which is delighted but rather of the external ear, the one that aches and burns after a too long listening session). At least that's what I'm telling myself when I ask in the silence of the night why I bought once again cheap headphones that won't make it to the end of the year.

 

But wearing them after the album is over, and thus accepting enduring the pain it provides to your ear pavilion is the most IDM thing you can do.

Interesting. I do believe a certain level of difficulty and struggle is required in life, but I don't believe damage is required. Like Carl Crack died, but I dunno if ATR was worth it. I suppose health is the ultimate sacrifice.

My friends used to call my 280s "the soundcrown". Still have 'em for outings since the cord is very neat.

if HEADPHONES win, imo we should do a thing where all of watmm (at least the true IDM league) celebrates the victory by wearing headphones without listening to anything for one very special day. tbqh
