Now That Trump's President... (not any more!)

Nebraska

Let's face it. Trump is so desperate to re-open again. His presidency depends on it. How can this even be on the table right now when the USA is still some way behind other countries regarding lockdown? I guess it's all numbers to him. As long as the death toll doesn't roll into hundreds of thousands then he considers that a good trade off in exchange for another four years in the White House. It's still all about him.

I wonder how badly he is regretting not stopping travel and whatnot when it first started popping up in the US, like any mildly competent president or person would. Instead of lying and saying it doesn't exist.

i don't think he dwells long enough to regret things. he just moves on and doesn't give a shit. indifference works that way. the only thing he cares about is if people are buying his spin on things and money.

I do think he could regret it in the sense that it reflects badly on his image, and for no other reason. I don't think he would regret it in the same way a normal person would.

stole this from CNN:

Here's who is eligible for a stimulus payment

The amount you'll receive will depend on your total income in 2019 or 2018. If you qualify, you'll receive one payment. Here's who qualifies:

  • If you're a single US resident and have an adjusted gross income less than $99,000
  • If you file as the head of a household and earn under $146,500
  • If you file jointly without children and earn less than $198,000

That’s fucking madness.
At least up here in socialist Canuckistan you actually have to be unemployed  or have reduced hours to get the CERB.

it's a one time payment.

unemployment here is different per state. but whatever the state is paying people who file for unemployment it's only a percentage of the person's reported wages. but the federal gov't as part of the recent covid bill are adding $600 to that amount so there's that.

Yeah the CERB is up to $2k a month for like 4 months or until EI kicks in, but it’s still not going to everyone, like I don’t get it (I don’t need it) because I’m able to work from home.

Trumps idiocy is literally an attempt to buy the election.

Random question, are there any good documentaries on Trump and/or his supporters? That go into depth about the whys and such.

I think The Great Hack on Netflix is pretty illuminating.

The calling to liberate the states from the presidential office is surreal even for him. Even if a predictable electioneering strategy. Seems like the blame game and division has gone domestic again. As if this pandemic was all some wacky Reopen the Civil War master plan.

if you find yourself in a certain frame of mind and want to explore more you can go back to the bush era and watch all their coverage of the gulf war stuff. it's pretty amazing.

Even after three years it's still unbelievable that Donald fucking Trump is the president of the USA. I mean what kind of country sees a man like that and thinks 'yeah, he'll be a good head of state'.  Americans have been so brow-beaten with stories of American exceptionalism and overall just-world fallacy that even the thought to even slightly improve things and elect people that are even a little accountable is seemed as some far-way dream or simply impossible. I just don't get how Americans are fine with how the county is run and how the wealth keeps going to fewer and fewer people as millions starve or dies from a lacking healthcare system if not getting shot to pieces in some pointless massacre that happen seemingly every week somewhere. At least the past March month was the first month since 2002 where there wasn't someone shooting up a school. Sure, sounds like a completely fine country to have.

For many of his voters it's a "you've made your bed, now lie in it" thing. Where he does a million stupid things and they just shrug it off. Where they see nothing wrong with a poll where the most negative option is 'very good'. They voted for him so him failing is a direct reflection onto them.

That is too much, if I focus too much on the politics stuff it starts to put me into a negative frame of mind, lol.

"they voted for him to own the libs" is a pretty common theory too. protest the establishment because they know he's terrible and libs hate him so he's the guy they want. plus so many people are ill informed. "he's a successful businessman and he'll run the country like a business".

we're fucked. i'm ok w/it if a bunch of Bolsheviks want to give trump and his whole family the Romanov treatment. Can't we arrange a family photo in the basement of the whitehouse? ?

hello FBI/NSA i'm only kidding.

That is the reason one of my best friends, a conservative, gave me. He voted for Trump to protest the evil liberal establishment. Which is a reason with 0% foresight. Only reason I could see it being a reasonable protest vote is if the presidency was a figurehead thing instead of being THE MOST POWERFUL POSITION IN AMERICA.

A Bush 2.0 would have been better than Trump.

He also mentioned that Trump being an "asshole" is irrelevant and that many of his voters are aware he's full of himself.... still horrible logic but at least they are aware it's horrible? I dunno.
