Now That Trump's President... (not any more!)

Lol Fox News. I’m not a conservative and I don’t watch Fox. Liberals want to pigeonhole people so badly. I got these “talking points” from the past year of NPR.

I’m not even saying Canada has terrible healthcare, but it has its own set of problems. Everything I said is true, not to mention how quickly doctors are leaving Canada. It’s not a stereotype.

I don’t think trump can fix healthcare or anything else, but if doctors deserve to be paid well, how do you remove profit? I don’t think it’s a stretch to say money is a big motivator for many go into medicine.

Also, my comment about dead eyed doctors isn’t a blanket statement about all doctors, it’s about people around the age of 30 who have been practicing for a couple years. If you don’t see that trend then you must not know many in the group I’m talking about.

edit: and yeah, doctors get squeezed in so many ways, not to mention the electronic records train wreck.

again, not saying all doctors are bad, our pediatrician is great. a spinal surgeon saved my brothers life. but my brother had 4 spinal surgeries. rods fused to his spine. the first one was to put the rods in, the second to take them out because he was done growing and this is usually what is done, but the first surgery turned out to be a failure, and his back twisted out of shape again in a few months.

the third surgery was done by a guy who, it turned out, had never done the surgery before. he was in one of the new specialist corridors that have cropped up on the north side of town. when my mom finally tracked down a nationally renowned surgeon, luckily only 5 hours away, he looked at the xrays and tried to hide how horrified he was at what the previous guy did. but dr 4 removed all of dr 3's horrific work and put in new rods in a total of about 8 hours. when you look  at the old and new xrays side by side, it's insane that dr 3 was able to get away with something like that. not to mention getting paid.

Dude, one fucking incident, that was a result of underfunding for rooms at the hospital, is not representative of the norm. You think that shit doesn’t happen in the US?

Fuck it, the results are endless.

Again, you guys spend insane amounts of money, for lower health outcomes.

And that “waiting time” talking point has been a right-wing one for decades in their argument against “socialized medicine”. Yes Canada has some problems with its system, but privatization and profit-driven medicine are not the answer.

you act like the government is made up of a bunch of altruistic geniuses. i think in reality, it's just people who don't have the carrot of profit, but instead have the stick of politicians handing them policy.

and lol at "you guys" like i have ever defended american healthcare. ridiculous. just because something is a right wing talking point means it's automatically false. ok.

read through these comments. obviously, these are symptoms of how healthcare is set up in canada. me saying canada has problems does not equate to me saying USA IS GOOD HEALTHCARE MAGA.

i'm saying, profit/privatization is bad, but so is the alternative.

i think the solution is to try to reverse most of the preventable health crises that are putting a huge stress on insurers. this is where i get really leftwing. like i mentioned in a previous post, it's not just obesity, but dozens of other symptoms are a result of the trash most people consume on a daily basis.

it's like my previous boss, a contractor who would pray for hurricanes. if you can make everybody sick, you can make insurance cost way way more than it has to.

Yes, let's pour several tons of water on a structure that has been compromised.

One still wonders if he is actually meaning these things or if he thinks that it makes him sound pragmatic and smart among a certain demographic of total retards.

He sounds like my former boss who would just barge in a say shit simply to say shit without knowing what was right or wrong. But he said things in a way that made people believe in him.

Yes there are doctor shortages, of course they are worse in Moncton NB, because it’s not a place reasonable people want to live, even though it’s the largest city in the province, its population is around 80k.

You keep saying you’re not right-wing, fine - all I’m saying is the points you raise in your apparent non-argument (“A”is not good, “B” isn’t good either!) are ones the right wing uses all the time, and has been doing for a long time.

The answer is probably in a mixed system like the ones in Germany. But profiting off people’s health problems is obscene.

I thought the entire western civilization was in agreement about the US healthcare system being the biggest tearjerker of them all. Even though there might some different reasons for it, mind you. A tiny fraction, mainly in the US want more market. And the bloody majority thinks the us healthcare market is completely fucked up and needs better regulation. Which is different to both less and more regulation, btw!

Oh hi there! As a Monconian, I feel the need to defend my hometown.

If you're into making money, NB isn't the place to be. But if you're fine with living modestly and still have access to big city things, Moncton is good. Rent and house costs are dirt cheap. There's a good art/music scene. There are some amazing parks and natural hideaways less than an hour outside the city.

The case of a person dying while waiting at the hospital is extremely rare. But wait times of three, four, five hours is pretty standard. You bring a book or two, or a tablet with your charger when going through triage. I usually drive 40 minutes to Sackville when I want to get checked out for something since the wait times are usually less than an hour there.

I want to believe there are still Republicans who are decent human beings. But their primary directive today is anilingus to the Don.

I'm just glad Lisa Murkowski, one of my state's GOP senators, still has some common sense.

She's probably the last moderate / centrist Republican in office and I say that because she had enough backbone to vote against Kavanaugh. Susan Collins and Flake are pretty much complacent at this point.

10, hell even 5 years ago I could still say there were reasonable. They've all since been voted out in primaries, retired or died. I'm skeptical of Romney and other "never Trumpers" in office biding their time, I think they've all either gone full-in or rather stay in office than risk switching parties. Same thing happened in Texas on the state level.

Moderate Republicans don't exist anymore. Hell, the GOP as a centrist to conservative right wing party doesn't exist anymore. It's full blown right-wing nationalist populism. It's proto-fascism. Tea Party movement in 2008 started it, Trump ended it. Anyone not falling in line was out-funded in primaries, and bombarded with negative campaign ads via social media. In the 90s it was common for Republicans from the suburbs and metropolitan areas to be openly pro-choice or for family planning. In 2019 legislators are getting death threats for blocking bills that would make women who had abortions charged with capital murder.

They went hard right, abandoned any sense of honesty and integrity, they relished in the loosened campaign finance laws, gerrymandered more districts, and successfully pushed for voter deterrence laws on the state level. The scary thing is instead of splitting into two parties and handing them Dems dominance they've made it impossible for true centrists to run, and likewise moved the goal post so that "centrism" in 2019 means "not really ok with racism, corruption, and top down oppression of the opposition."

And my understanding with the increased polarization is that the GOP itself is shrinking. I mean, look at the captain of their ship.

And freshmen congresswomen like AOC and Ilhan Omar have already been receiving death threats from the right, simply because of who they are. And the GOP heavy hitters like Mitch McConnell won't even bring any bills to the Senate floor for a vote that are intended to keep Trump's power in check. And John Bolton (aka the Evil Lorax) keeps beating the war drums over Iran, and for what?

The Republican party as we know it now is rotten to the core. So they can either stage a mutiny, or let their ship sink under their lunatic captain.

So are you saying doctors shouldn’t make $180k a year?

that's some 8th debate Ben Shapiro "wHy nOt rAiSe tHe mIniMUm wAge to $100/hr !?" horseshit

no one is fucking saying that or even implying it

the TLDR everyone is saying is that the US system is literally the worst of both private and public healthcare, an underfunded and constricted public system and a lobbyist-driven corporate hell that is the insurance industry. the private insurance industry literally gets to divert public tax revenue into a system they control, and then push the costs back onto the public. we literally pay the highest taxes with the most pathetic and meager benefits issued. in my situation my wife has kept her job because my insurance premiums would amount to over 25% of my entire income just to legally have my family insured. that's just for the minimum. that's after my employer is already contributing a substantial part of the premium. I can't even go to specialists without shelling out $50-75 a visit.

there's no room for compromise or gradual improvement if the system is already so fucked, so bring on single-payer

I like you a lot sheathe but even I'm getting exhausted reading your posts on this subject

Wait, I thought you lived in Japan 100km away from Fukushima? I'm confused.

Did you just assume his geolocation?

Lol.

Travel, MDM Chaos. 3 weeks in Japan, two of them roughly 112 km from the Daiichi reactor site.

Did anyone catch Bernie’s town hall on Fox?
