Now That Trump's President... (not any more!)

It's also important to remember that you don't need to swing the popular vote all that drastically for Clinton to have a landslide win. The democrats start off with a very significant demographic advantage in the electoral college (with big states like NY, Illinois and California already in the bag, and southern states like Arizona and Colorado flipping to blue in recent years), Clinton can now afford to narrowly lose a swing-state like Florida and still win the election (as long as she wins Ohio, or vice versa, the republicans need both). The republicans realised this after Bush, and they tried to reorient their policies towards a more pro-immigration platform to court latino voters, not only did they fail at that though, but it completely alienated their core voters and allowed for the Trump to defeat all of the party's preferred candidates. It'll be fascinating to see what they do after the election if Trump loses, it'll have proved them right that the angry uneducated white vote is no longer enough to win the presidency, but the policies they need to enact will never succeed within their own grassroots movement, puts them in a very difficult position. Like I said many months ago, bar some unforeseen dramatic revelation, Clinton will win this comfortably.

Might as well give the presidency to Hillary. Trumps campaign is going downhill pretty fast.

#DisasterTrump

America loves trainwrecks though and the public is a morbidly curious bunch. But yeah I can't imagine there being a huge revival of Trump in any way in the polls. Back to near 50/50 maybe but nothing as close as before he fucking insulted parents of a dead American war veteran. I still can't fathom this kind of shit is actually happening.

the 'morbid curiosity' is on the verge of taking over. after seeing the reaction of the bernie bros to convention adn hillary's nomination.. a lot of them are in sync with trump supporters. "hillary is worse than trump" "lock her up" etc etc.. the hardcore supporters are disconnected from reality and don't seem to care that by not supporting hillary they give trump a better chance of getting in the white house. and when asked about "well, what about all the muslims and latinos who could be rounded up and deported? aren't you free to not support hillary because that won't effect you because you're white?" they acknowledge that and says "yeah we're in a bubble".

it's fucking crazy.  other people interviewed were sort of committed to having a shitty 4 years if trump is elected but to spite hillary they're fine w/that.

so, i'm hopeful that enough people aren't interested in seeing the car crash administration of donald trump and would rather have 4 years of some kind of status quo but honestly i'm not going to pretend it's in the bag for hillary because i just don't feel that way yet. if she doesn't win i won't be totally surprised.

i think americans are capable of making really awful decisions out of boredom, stupidity, rage, racism etc.

At least they didn't fuck up the first American Idol. If Justin won it could have set a really bad precedent. That was post 9/11 pre Iraq war though.

That aside I do wonder how many people actually are going to not vote for Hillary as Bernie supporters. I'm hoping they're just in the first of the five stages of grief. I have noticed some hardcore core Bernie I know fans still seem pretty irked or apathetic at best.

how is this even close... how many things does trump have to say... he's for nuclear proliferation, he's against porn, he thinks american pows shouldnt be considered war heros, he makes a prejudiced insult about the mother of a killed american soldier, he makes fun of a female politician's face, he says mexicans are rapists, he says he is going to ban muslims from entering the country, women who seek abortion should be punished, america should torture more, a judge of mexican descent makes poor rulings because of his ethnicity, he boasts about the size of his penis on tv, says obama would have gone to scalia's funeral if he were muslim, does a mean-spirited impersonation of a disabled person, talks about a debate moderator being on her period, incites violence at his rallies, chooses a notoriously anti-gay guy for his vp...

honestly i am not trying to talk politics here this is just deeply disconcerting. it shouldn't have got this far.

you know what people like about trump? that he's a bigot.

a repulsive, contemptible, wretched, disgusting, abominable, grotesque, repugnant, detestable, reprehensible, deplorable, apalling state of affairs

it's funny how whenever trump is leading in the polls, he seems like this unstoppable beast. Despite his obnoxiousness, and the fact that I would never vote republican, whenever he's winning, I can't help but root for this sick death mobile of a man.

But whenever he seems weak and losing, like right now, he appears like a sad flaccid sack of shit (which he is).

His win/lose is strongly bound to his apparent strength, which can swing from fully inflated to entirely depleted within hours.

Fun!

all that aside I think the most disturbing aspect is he's a immature spoiled brat. he talks so much shit then throws a hissy fit when someone spits it back at him. he's literally a little shit of a child who thrashes around and turns into a crybaby as soon as anyone tells him "no" or a another kid pushes back.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/plum-line/wp/2016/08/03/could-trump-actually-drop-out-of-the-race-and-what-would-happen-if-he-did/?postshare=8031470244926482&tid=ss_tw

But could he actually drop out of the race? The argument against it has a number of factors in its favor. First, nothing like that has ever happened before (though neither has a candidate like Trump ever been a party nominee before). Second, doing so would be an acknowledgement of defeat, which is obviously something Trump would find intolerable. Third, he’s only trailing Hillary Clinton by six points or so, which means it’s entirely possible that he could stabilize his campaign and hope for some dramatic event (an alien invasion, perhaps) that changes the dynamic of the race and allows him to win.

The argument for why he might abandon his run is less persuasive, but not dramatically so. Trump is facing a level of scrutiny and criticism unlike anything he’s ever experienced before, and it may be taking a personal toll. If he concludes he’s going to lose anyway, why not jump ship now and let somebody else take the fall? After all, that’s what he’s done in the past. All those bankruptcies his businesses have gone through? He managed in the end to convince himself that they were actually not failures, but shrewd stratagems by the world’s greatest businessman, himself. In time he might be able to tell a similar story about this race: He ran the greatest campaign in history and showed everyone what a winner he was, then stepped aside once he had made his point, deciding to return to the business world where his true magnificence could be more fully realized.

I've been thinking this was possible all along, not likely or anything, but just about possible. An even better tinfoil hat view would be that the whole thing was a giant troll by the Clinton's, who somehow masterminded the whole thing.

saw an interview on the news where they were talking about the possibility. it seems a weird thing to float at this point..but this election campaign has been pretty weird.

he's a giant troll even if he intends to stick with it. he's still just a big shitty troll.

i've no idea what to think if he suddenly drops out. his supporters will implode/explode freak out.  what will it mean for his replacement? who would taht be? what a weird process. i guess the RNC would pick the nominee. what a shit show.

After the whole veteran's parents fiasco, it only seemed more plausible...

you guys seen the vic berger time heidecker stuff?

it's pretty amazing especially towards the end. a nice alex jones moment too.

haha, loving the typical T&E editing and "musicians" performing for supporting political candidates.

EDIT: some of the embarrassing moments were actually making me physically sick

I truly feel sorry for Americans. They have a choice of choosing between a dog or a dog with fleas.

As you may have guessed, I fucking hate politics - the corruption, the inner sanctums, the elite making all the rules, the self-serving individuals with vested interests in making things better for them and not those that elected them.

At least I don't live in North Korea.

Not a very appropriate point in this context. We are still living in a paradise compared to some other countries in the world (especially North Korea).

the hardcore supporters are disconnected from reality

So much truth in this even if taken out of the particular election context.
