itspast this, its a class struggle not a debate anymore

well sure, there's that angle. I suppose I was just naively thinking out loud why everything always has to be such a chest thumping contest with the R's.

Donald picking this judge is first and foremost pure spectacle, what he lives for. piss off snowflakes & Dems, rile up the base. second on his mind is she'll be on his team, will do him a solid down the road when it's time to charge him with something. The senate R's must surely get this, but are so far mentally gone that Donald's logic passes muster with them. they are enabling a mentally unstable delusional person, instead of pausing to ask questions.

it's shared insanity. Folie a deux (great x-files episode btw, strong parallels to all this - a giant cockroach/insect disguises itself as a human, who has the ability to turn people into zombies that obey it).

I'm chafed as fuck about the US media/political class making this goddamn hazard zone out of the idea of votes being counted beyond November 4th. WHO FUCKING CARES IF IT TAKES A LITTLE LONGER. I get why the republicans are crying wolf, but why aren't the democrats focusing and neutralizing this stupid idea as we speak? This is a weird year, with a weird election that needs to happen under weird circumstances. If we could stop training each other to expect instant results, we could disarm Trump's stupid idea that we NEED to know the results that night, and that if we don't, there must be some deep conspiracy afoot. This is the worst of American fast food culture combined with conspiratorial nonsense, and it will fuck us over.

And all it would take to get this into the heads of the American people is for the media class to admit it and let it be normalized. Instead, we're still seeing articles with wording like "we may not have the results on election night" and "if the ballots are not counted by the end of the night, Trump may yadda yadda yadda" as if it's a mere possibility that this election is different. And so people are going to expect instant results. Chaos will ensue when we don't get it. And all we would need to avoid this is to prepare ourselves for a different timeline.

Why do you think that is?  It's because the media knows they can get clicks on that headline.  Many more clicks than a headline like "Keep Calm, Everyone, It May Take a Few Weeks to Count All of the Votes".

It's all about the $$$, even at the expense of our civilization.

edit: i guess it's not that crazy. it's expected but it seems crazy based on reality of what working people pay etc.

this is a reddit comment in one of the threads about the tax news. it's a good summary of things i think. it's fucking slapstick. total criminal activity.

From the NYT article.

Among the key findings of The Times’s investigation:

  • Mr. Trump paid no federal income taxes in 11 of 18 years that The Times examined. In 2017, after he became president, his tax bill was only $750.

People are focusing on this but that's the least interesting part.

  • He has reduced his tax bill with questionable measures*, including a $72.9 million tax refund that is the subject of an audit by the Internal Revenue Service.

Two main issues here:

  • His audit was suspended when he became president. He's desperately trying to avoid this audit to be competed. His tax liability is likely close to $100m.

  • His likely to be liable for fraud, hence the NY AG with a criminal probe on him and his businesses.

  • Many of his signature businesses, including his golf courses, report losing large amounts of money — losses that have helped him to lower his taxes.

He claims to be a great businessman but he managed to waste away more than $400m his dad left him and almost $500m he made on the Apprentice. He's an awful businessman, especially since he managed to lose money in real estate in very hot markets.

  • The financial pressure on him is increasing as hundreds of millions of dollars in loans he personally guaranteed are soon coming due.
  • This is the most serious issue for him. After stiffing a lot of investors and creditors by bankrupting businesses and leaving loans unpaid, he had to start getting personal loans to keep his lifestyle.

The minute he's out office, he'll have to settle those debts. He doesn't have the assets to do so. He's broke.

  • Even while declaring losses, he has managed to enjoy a lavish lifestyle by taking tax deductions on what most people would consider personal expenses, including residences, aircraft and $70,000 in hairstyling for television.
  • This is where fraud and back taxes may take him to jail, just like Capone.
  • Ivanka Trump, while working as an employee of the Trump Organization, appears to have received “consulting fees” that also helped reduce the family’s tax bill.
  • This will implicate her as well. This is fraud to avoid the gift tax. Both are liable here.
  • As president, he has received more money from foreign sources and U.S. interest groups than previously known. The records do not reveal any previously unreported connections to Russia.
  • This will be directly tied to many of the deals he made while in office. Corruption, pure and simple and the DeutschBank records may finally show direct money connection to Russia.

In summary, the only thing keeping Trump out of the poor house and maybe jail is the presidency. That's the reason he so desperately wants to be president until he dies.

the very concerning question is to whom does he owe $400 million?

That would seemingly make him quite compromised.

I would assume there is a Russian/middle east connection there. and if it's being reported on, then that must mean these loans are documented somewhere and not just IOU's and handshakes with Vlad and the gang. suppose that is part of the Deutsche bank mystery? I wonder how much he owes under the table to these and other groups.

Oh yeah, Justin Kennedy who was at Deutsche Bank when they gave Trump a billion dollar loan just happens to be the son of former supreme court justice Anthony Kenny, who kindly retired so Trump could appoint Kavanaugh.
