Microsoft’s next Windows 10 update, called the Autumn (or Fall in the US) Creators Update, will bring a variety of new features. But one long-standing stalwart of the Windows experience has been put on the chopping block: Microsoft Paint.

I noticed it had disappeared from the start bar program list in my windows 10, theres some shit called Paint3D instead which at first inspection looked ass.

If you run a search for the paint it is still there though... for now.

Hopefully some freeware program can replace it?

I still use it all the time.

tbh why is it even getting axed? Its not like its resource intensive

Paint.NET is almost identical to paint. Though, there are a lot more photo editing options here

Aye though the .net component bloats it out quite a bit, Paint is lovely and lean: For me I used Notepad for instant text snippets I need to copy and Paint for image snippets. My stupid memory makes me forget what I was doing unless it loads instantly !

windows elements have been discontinued and marked deprecated for 20 years without actually being removed, but sure, I'll join in. RIP. One of the very best. Plenty of humorous pieces done here that just wouldn't be the same without it.

What?? First Dpaint on the Amiga, now this?

lol

That's a good shout - Wonder if you can just grab mspaint.exe from the System32 folder and it'll work as a self-contained/portable exe without need of additional libraries ...
