its interesting that this complete spanner of a track garners 3 pages of discussion while porter ricks latest album has like 6 posts.

Because cheekbones.

Could someone recommend some good artists in the queer community? This is awful.

dumb question. probably lots of musicians you listen to are queer but it's hardly the first thing yoi check...
True but also it can be relevant to understanding an artist's background. It's a huge life event to come out to your family, friends, co-workers, etc. And it's a huge part of every day life when you are not in-line with the default gender and sexuality of society. It's also an amazing experience to discover what it's like to be comfortable with yourself after growing up and coming of age in the closet.

Anyway.

Natasha Kmeto is great.

My album doesnt have lyrics, but it has a track about not fitting in with boys or girls & living as an outsider, and a track about transition & what that was for me while I was (still am) going through it. /end self-promotion

Edit: Btw I really don't want to be preachy, I am just a nerd for queerness. If you are not interested you don't gotta read it.
you sir,
are a pedant.

I am aware that calling you sir is an inaccurate terminology. but the statement lacks 'oomph' any other way.

Perhaps i should let you know that i am just bustin' yer gonads. I am "queer" and I suppose I should adopt a friendly demeanor but it is all too freeing to be a dick on watmm after all the site has been thru. cheers.

lilium kobayashi / lily / ultrademon

as i said before octo octa's album this year was really really good

jlin obviously

i know lots of queer / trans / etc "artists" from college but they all fucking suck at what i feel is the most important part of being a musician: actually being able to make good music or actually knowing anything about electronic music. They all talk like "yeahhhh haha im so down with this dirty baltimore sound" but seem completely clueless about any important / good artists thru history. It's just contemporary shitty "dance" DJs they care about it. There is this one girl I know who calls herself FXWRK and makes footwork i suppose but knew not one chicago artist, from planet mu or otherwise, save rashad when chatted with her. in some respects I'm envious of the brazen confidence to set up a soundcloud and just throw up some shitty tracks without knowing anything but i also think it's just insane naïveté and narcissism brought on by the hellscape of social media. w/e this is not really an issue with them being queer at all, that's just another arrow in their hipster quiver.

There's so much wrong in what you've just said...

First of all, we aren't uninformed simpletons as you're trying to imply, people have their own reasons for not being as informed on music history compared to others, I would 100% prefer an artist to make incredible music with little knowledge on that topic compared to someone who knew all about it and made terrible shite. It's also typical that younger artists like us would probably also prefer to pump out music than to read through a history book so give us time, I'm happy I'm trying to balance both when I can and I hold no grudge on people just finding out about certain genres and artists and backgrounds and etc, and I'm always happy to introduce people to musicians and artists they've never heard of. But the sheer fact you would dismiss talent over that is ridiculous, and even if there were people who did turn out to be hipster posers in terms of what they created, who they were and what they knew about history, I hate to think that you are attributing it to a community simply because a personal experience like that riled up your snooty, self-important ego. There are plenty of motivated and interesting queer artists out there and clearly you haven't looked into it enough if you've come to that conclusion.

I respect you are willing to tell others about the history of certain genres, but your condescending attitude is what makes me lose interest. So really, nice try, but you come off as an incredibly pompous fellow.

I dunno that it's pedantic. I know it's not cool to be serious on WATMM except when bitching about how X artist/scene is ruining IDM, but I genuinely feel like this shit is important. My name on here is fucking Ganus and I have a dog avatar, I only take myself so seriously, but c'mon... you and I have both been on this forum a long time, and I dig your music, I just want to have a genuine dialog with my peers.

Who gives a dick if you are queer, straight, bi, dolphin, or hermit crab. If you make great music you make great music. If not, go fuck yourself.

Knowing about electronic music also means shiite. Innovaters don't prescribe to genres and music norms.

I'm gonna try to step as carefully as possible around these landmines. A good friend of mine is very masculine and jacked. He prefers to date trans women--almost exclusively these days. He claims that even though they are biologically male, you get a femininity that is simply not available in modern women. They do all his domestic stuff and "take care" of him like wives of yore.

I've noticed with Anohni and now Sophie apparently is that their performances are so over-the-top that they verge on feminine parody or satire even though I'm pretty sure they're 100% earnest. It's the musical equivalent of those trans girls doing the Susie Homemaker routine for my friend. Anyway, hope she still throws out some of those acute kung fu beats now and again.

this kind of feminin women you will find a lot in countries like poland, romania, ukraine, russia for example

This thread...I am confuse

Anyway, I miss 2014 Sophie. Strictly musically speaking, not regarding her personal life decision.

Seems like Machine Drum went this route too. Starting his career off more IDM-like but then taking more pop route later down the road. Blech.
