Newtown is worth a look even if you're not specifically looking for records. Not sure how good it still is since I was last there 7+ years ago, but it was a big alt/hipster area in my days living there.

Also damn, looks like you just missed the Glebe record fair..

Haha ah well. Yeah Newtown sounds very cool..almost like a Camden of Sydney. I haven't really got the cash to buy much more stuff really but it's nice to go digging all the same. Lovely place you live in!

Frida's in Redfern can have some great stuff. 107 Projects too. I saw these guys play on a Wednesday at Frida's https://n-m-o.bandcamp.com/album/nordic-mediterranean-organization-numerous-miscommunications-occur-diag031

Most things are a bit more underground after the lockout laws.

Nick at Repressed Records is a treasure trove of info.

Thanks for info! If I get another shit weather day (unlikely) I might head out again...thanks for the tip offs.

If I were to move here, I'd deffo get no work done, would love to live by the beach. I don't think that would become a novelty for me personally.

Went to Toronga Zoo btw. Was great, lots of audio recorded. I don't know how the hell im going to manage all these files when I get home.

Pretty much agree with all you've just said yeah. Oh I didn't mean to tar all of Sydney with one brush - I'm staying in Manley at the minute and yes, it's clearly a destination for the rich (very much not me by any stretch!lol). Yeah most of my sisters money (works in Mossman) goes on rent. So in a way, it's sad that she can't afford to enjoy the city/beach life more. London seems a lot like this too but just replace the main attraction as the beach with the hustle and bustle of a city.

It's definitely evoking my desire to live by the water and enjoy the sun/surf etc. Doubt I'd be able to afford to live here in the next ten years though so for now it's an awesome holiday.

RedEye Records was by far my favourite. Bought two early Severed Heads records.

bowling Warney, bowling, enjoy the ride

they never really got/get the recognition they deserve for genuine electronic music pioneers, from chuggy proto-House to headfuck electronica, plus those sleeves

a cluster of ex-Nottingham free party House crew moved to Oz after the millennium, ideal for a night out if they're playing locally:

plus, Harvey Sutherland can rock a groove, rare musicianship skills in a genre that can be a wasteland for generic shit:

Just to bump this by saying I'm listening to this and it's incredible (I picked up the vinyl in Sydney)

I can hear production techniques and grooves which have cleared inspired other artists I've grown up with from Nine Inch Nails through to even more mainstream bands than that like The Cure and maybe Talking Heads.

Highly recommended and thanks again to those that tipped me off.

Gotta say, that sure is one boring as fuck track.. I appreciate their dedication to that one sound but man, this makes Meshuggah's recent output sound like a Ween album in terms of diversity.

lol @ the comments "omg did we just hear a studio version of Descending? " as though it's something super incredible and innovative

I imagine this post was meant for the Tool thread?

lol god damnit how did that end up happening

edit: severed heads are great though, what a strangely inappropriate thread to accidentally post my Tool hate in
