I'm still gutted from this devastating news. Ever since i heard his music at Day for Night i have been listening to him more than anything else. His music is absolutely brilliant and unmistakable. I was really looking forward to hearing where he went next. He told me over the last month that he was developing a whole new style that was far more emotional but still had the alien feel to it. He even posted a straight up piano ballad on his Soundcloud for a short period of time and it was a fascinating piece. The melody kept throwing curveballs at you, it fucked with my expectations in a really fascinating way, i ended up listening to it on loop for an hour. I'm kicking myself for not asking him for a copy after he took it down.

We had been chatting online for a while but over the last few months discovered that we had this intense connection and grew very close. He was an absolute sweetheart with an amazing sense of humor that was as unusual and brilliant as his music. I'm incredibly fortunate to have made friends with one of my favorite musicians and to have had the opportunity to thoroughly gush directly to him about how much his work means to me. He said we have an unbreakable bond and i feel like he is still here with me in a way.

Defunkt and some other labels are talking about putting together some kind of a tribute record and maybe videos to raise money for his family. Also there are unreleased collaborations that will hopefully see the light of day, including tracks from an unfinished EP he was doing with Otto Von Schirach. When i have more details i'll be sure to keep everyone posted.

Really nice to read your personal connection with him, he seemed like a decent guy.  Does anybody know what happened yet?

One of the Otto Van Schirach tracks was (and still is) on his soundcloud page.  I hope they do eventually see the light of day.

A tribute record would be amazing, and I would buy any new music from him if it goes on to help his family.

Wow, Tom Middleton was working on a collaboration with Qebrus.

Seems like a strange collab!

edit: no offense, just vastly diff styles of music. That would have been interesting.

Really sad. =(

Here is a link to his first album from 2008. He considered this to be his best full length up until his final record from late last year. It was released on vaatican records as a free download. It is brilliant, way more straightforward IDM than his later work but there are a few songs where you start to hear him find his signature alien sound.

was due to see him on Bangface lineup back in 2016 but he sadly couldn't make it (no idea what the reasons were but he was one of the reasons I had pitched up for that Weekender!)

Oh wow, ambient-ish Qebrus that I never knew about.  Thank you for sharing.

  • 1 month later...

Awww fuck i feel so sad to learn that.

He was so full of promises.

I followed him en facebook, he was very chaotic and looked very sensitive trying to do his best despite some difficulties.

Again, this is deeply sad...

Now this caught my interest, Awesome? https://exophobiaorgqebrus.bandcamp.com/album/exophobia

I wonder what will happen with my money if I buy now, hope it goes to family members.

Sales on his bandcamp account go to his two children and their mother.

This EP is a great place for people to start, it is also out on CD via Love Love https://exophobiaorgqebrus.bandcamp.com/album/--2

I know Tom Middleton has been contacted by Qebrus' manager regarding releasing what they were working on but i have no idea what state it is in.
