Motohiko Hamase - Intaglio

Jaazeps

Recommended Posts

I just randomly came across this album on YouTube and it's completely blown my mind. This is from 1986, but I feel like it could be released tomorrow and still sound completely fresh. From what I could find on Japanese Wikipedia, he was originally a jazz bass player in the 70s and then started writing experimental music in the early 80s. I can't possibly imagine that Daniel Lopatin has never heard this album before - the instrumentation and composition (particularly in the second half of the album) sounds so much like his post-Replica work for Warp (especially R plus 7). Maybe I'm just overreacting right now after hearing it for the first time, but this music is just blowing me away.

Thanks so much for this rec. Beautiful album right here. Also just picked up “Technodrome” from ‘93 — timeless music.

Anyone here checked the Listen To This blog?

Many great Japanese/New Age/New Wave albums highlighted there. Been really into World Standard as of late.
