'why do you wanna be'

not sure why everyone is so bent on being like someone else. why spend so much time trying to be like BoC?

i am all for learning through emulation...lots of artists do it. but why try to fool other people by trying to pretend to sound like someone else. if you succeed, then you've only succeeded at being second man on the moon.

and in the case of BoC...good luck. that's a real tuff one to copy, and if you did a good job of it, you will prbably take more heat than praise.

i'd rather have someone be into my music for what it is [that not being possible with my music]

off of my own topic...that thread title could make for a good track name. :getlost:

i feel the exact same way.. i also made a thread like this a while ago and people got really mad at me :getlost:

Some people just do things to take a piss you know, have fun..

it's no different than being a teenager who picks up a guitar and plays nothing but led zeppelin riffs.

i make music with this realization in mind: i will never go pro. no one will give me a record deal. my cd's will never sit in the racks of a shop.

is that depressing? no. it's liberating in one sense. i just have fun. i don't have to worry about what critics will say or whether i'm staying ahead of the curve. just fun. that's it.

therefore, i don't care what you think.

choas: HA HA HA i hear man. everyones rockin the sh101 these days.

jesus guys, take it to the east side. no frenchies down town. i dont wanna see ANY of you in outremont, westmount, mont-royal awe-ite. [not serious]

never understood why you guys wanted to split from canada. you represent 90% of quebec, and you fear you are at rick of losing your culture. WHILE at the same time the rest of canada wants you guys to stick around. are you guy really THAT hard headed?

why fuck up canada. i wish you fuckin guys would realize that having the french speaking part of canada is what helps make canada what it is.

and this song and dance it getting old...let it go the way of the F.L.Q. and just be a part of the big picture, quit being so self centred.

[part of my edit]

why complain about all the english guys on a predominantly english speaking board. makes no sense...or are you just being typically french.

AND ON TOP OF ALL THIS BS...this is a board about the boards 'o' C and seems like a lot of topics have drifted from that.

Hey, if it's good, I'll listen to it. Some people think artists like Tycho are ripoffs of BOC and whatnot, but I still think it's great music. It's good that people are influenced by other musicians. Otherwise, things would be pretty boring.

good post, i'm the same way. my music is usually terrible but it's fun just fucking around, and great for when i get something that sounds golden to me

entire genres thrive, and create billions of punds revenue simply by copying one artist, namely dr. dre, i wouldnt bother complaining if a few people wanna try and emulate the sound of BoC
