agreed. i liked that dj earl stuff. haven't heard any jlin stuff which caught my groove. even though the production sounds interesting. incredibly detailed. but the train has a hard time getting into a groove. that earl stuff had a nice groove to it. the bass gets going. bit simpler perhaps. but without becoming boring and predictable. (it's a mix obviously..)

Yeah, Footwork is best in a mix, because it's built to be used that way. Footwork battles are inherently an exercise in mixing for the DJ. Unmixed there is often some repetition, because the tracks are made to bleed together at the front and back

WOW I can't believe you guys know about this super unknown genre!! only AFX would think to be influenced by such obscure music haha :aphexsign: :aphexsign: :aphexsign:!!! I don't like it though. it's too minimal and there's no lush melodies that make me feel nostalgic. the drums are kind of simple but also confusing, wtf???? plus the bass is too loud, they should listen to Squarepusher shred to hear what good skilled bass sounds like.  Machinedrum perfected this style the other guys are just OK.

lol footwork and juke is awesome.  no one knows DJ PAYPAL?  i think some of the beauty is in the simplicity.  reminds me of all the skrillex kids listening to aphex and asking where the drop was.

I love looking down upon the peasants who haven’t listened to a relatively obscure music genre. Fucking uncultured swine. Makes me feel so good about my subjective taste.

Syro and eps conjured up images of dusty old machines, tape decks, and cottages. This stuff makes me conjure images of Space Shamans and bug eyed sun worshipping tribal raves. That has to be a positive thing.

I'm waiting for all 24 bits. Why eat a cold, day old dosa from a wet Styrofoam container when I can have it fresh off the tawa with buttery flavors intact?

Cus u hungry

I FINALLY managed to track down where Richard debuted a version of "pthex" live (by using the search feature of the forum with me as an author for the word "unreleased)

starts around 2:30

I distinctly remembered the tempo breakdown around 4:20.

For the record I'm glad I didn't wait for a whole month like some disgusting flagellant monk hermit. It's 2018, I demand instant gratification at all times no matter the cost to my soul

YOU CAN'T BREAK ME

Checked it out too... I don't know, I hate to be a snob but I kind of find it not... sophisticated enough? And that actually made me like the EP a lot more now, glad to hear a different and unique perspective on the genre.

I'm def not a fan of everything footwork related, but a lack of sophistication sounds to me like a lack of dancefloor ears, if you will. guessing you're more an armchair kind of listener.

currently mostly listening to rp boo, btw. some of it sounds like cross between R&b/soul and some hyper eclectic shit. if you've got an ear for soul - eg. stevie wonder - this is def interesting stuff, imo. and is beyond the typical repetitive dancefloor stuff. imo2
